This series was designed before the foundation of the Banknotes Committee. The illustration portrays the single road to Jerusalem going from the Tel Aviv area through the Bab el-Wad area to Jerusalem (see fig. 1). This choice reflects the significance of the entrance to the Jerusalem mountains and the Latrun area, which had been crucial for keeping contact with the besieged city during the War of Independence.
