Background: In South Africa, the export of coal is a large contributor to the gross domestic product. Statistics indicate that the export of coal is stagnant or declining, which indicates a risk for coal as a foreign exchange earner. A study into the risks facing the bulk coal export logistics chain is therefore of great importance. Any risk to thi...

International trade is a simple transaction that involves buying and selling goods between entrepreneurs from different countries, currencies, times, and cultures. International trade carries greater risks than domestic trade, but it is an essential part of the global economy. Free on Board (FOB) shipping is the most common method for managing export risks. FOB can be understood as an agreement established in a contract for cross-border trade using waterways and inland routes. The objectives of this research are: 1) describing the fluctuation of export transactions with FOB based on major ports; 2) analyzing the export risk level with FOB based on provincial major ports; 3) describing the fluctuation of Indonesia's export transactions with FOB based on destination countries; 4) analyzing Indonesia's export risk level with FOB based on destination countries. This research utilizes a quantitative design with a literature study approach. The secondary data used is a time series from 2016–2022. Export risk is measured by the coefficient of variation (CV). Fluctuations in export transactions based on FOB from main ports tend to increase. Exports from 25 ports with a CV value below 050 indicate low export risk. Meanwhile, 28 ports with a CV value above 05 indicate high export risk. The value of ASEAN exports has increased, although there was a decrease in 2019 and 2020. Export values remain relatively stable in the United States, European Union, Africa, and Australia. An overall analysis of destination countries shows that CV values below 050 indicate low export risk.
... Transportation logistics is one of SCM's activities, and it aims to deliver products at the right time and place at the lowest possible cost. Generally, transport logistics is one of the factors that most influences the economic growth of organizations and a country, allowing better results to be obtained in the global market [13]. Within this activity are the problems of optimization of the routing of cargo vehicles (VRP) that must travel a minimum cost route for the delivery of goods [14], the programming of vehicles with time windows (VRPTW) that considers the daily scheduling [15], and trained vehicle routing (CVRP), which helps identify routes that start and end at a distribution center [16]. ...
... Meanwhile, some scholars have analyzed the risk management of a key node. Botha et al. [7] analyzed the risks faced in the logistics chain and suggested that stakeholders should cooperate in developing risk mitigation strategies in a holistic and integrated manner. Li et al. As unexpected events such as natural disasters, the COVID-19 pandemic, and overseas containment have caused inevitable shocks to the energy industrial chain and supply chain, the current global energy crisis is intensifying, and different countries and regions have adopted different strategies according to the characteristics of their own national resource endowments in order to cope with energy security. Maintaining the security of the coal industrial chain and supply chain is a prerequisite for energy security to be effectively ensured, considering the main position of coal in China’s energy. Therefore, in the face of multiple uncertain risk factors under today’s momentous changes, this paper constructs an industrial coal chain and supply chain resilience evaluation indicator system from the perspective of resilience, based on four representational capabilities of resilience, namely preparedness, absorptive capacity, recovery capacity, and adaptability, in order to profoundly understand and enhance the resilience of the coal industrial chain and supply chain. An integrated method combining Interval Type-2 Fuzzy Prospect Theory and Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to an Ideal Solution (Interval Type-2F-PT-TOPSIS) is proposed for evaluating the resilience level of the coal industrial chain and supply chain. In the case of Shaanxi Province in China, it was found that the worst level of resilience of the coal industrial chain and supply chain in Shaanxi Province was in 2018, and the best was in 2021. Finally, based on the evaluation results, recommendations are provided to the key nodes of the industrial chain and supply chain in Shaanxi Province with a view to improving their resilience levels to cope with uncertain risks.

Seaports enable national and international trade in nearly every country around the globe. The new digital world has led most seaport sectors to fully embrace new technologies and tools to better compete with other seaports. Moreover, such maritime activities have potentially significant effects on regional development. The east coast region in Peninsular Malaysia is less developed than the west coast region. It has caused a significant regional development gap, particularly in infrastructure quality, community services, production volume diversification, job opportunities and rising average wealth. Firstly, this study assesses how economic activities affect regional development in Peninsular Malaysia. Secondly, this study aims to identify the challenges and strategies for resolving the regional development imbalance in Peninsular Malaysia. A semi-structured face-to-face interview with fifteen maritime experts was adopted to achieve the proposed objectives. Interview outcomes helped identify and resolve significant problems and create strategies to facilitate the regional development of Malaysian seaports. IR 4.0: These novel strategies may lead to digitalisation in decision-making methods concerning regional development in the Malaysian seaport sector. Integrating four approaches could increase the regional development progress and facilitate continuous growth for the Malaysian seaport industry. The new findings recommend Malaysian seaport digitalisation through progressive regional development.

The aim of the study is to investigate what challenges supply chain companies have been faced and how supply chain companies (ocean carriers, port terminals and other supply chain actors etc.) have sustained the resilience of competitive advantage during Covid-19 in maritime supply chains by exploring required resources and capabilities of firms. Additionally, the study also aims to find out the firm competitive advantage strategy from the lessons earned during pandemic. The data collection was carried out on the 31 supply chain stakeholders. Two types of method used in analysing a literature and interview. For the methodology, a literature review was conducted and afterward interviews were deeply analyzed with content analysis. The findings of study reveals that the many firms have developed their capabilities (such as digital transformation etc.) to ensure the effective competitive advantage during Covid-19. For the practitioners, the study will aid them to build their resilience strategy by using their own resources and capabilities.
... Any risk to this logistics chain will directly affect its efficiency and contribution to foreign exchange. The nature of a logistics supply chain is such that risks to one stakeholder (partner or node) affect not only that stakeholder's own operations but also those of the other partners and the whole supply chain's efficiency and sustainability (Botha & Badenhorst-Weiss, 2019). ...
Purpose
This study aims to propose an approach to assess the security of supply (SS) in a coal-fired electricity generation supply chain subject to public price regulation in Brazil. This study characterizes the Brazilian scenario of coal-fired electricity generation, which represents less than 3.5% of the energy sources.
Design/methodology/approach
Data from six mining companies that supply a coal plant were analyzed in a case study. The risks were characterized and objectively estimated through a synthetic multidimensional index. Structural changes in the earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, amortization and exploration indicator time series of coal companies (CC) were statistically detected.
Findings
Empirical evidence demonstrates that the supply chain has a low disruption risk (SS index equal to 0.74). However, when suppliers are individually analyzed, 48.64% of all coal shows moderated disruption risk, and 2.51% is under high risk. In addition, this study finds a drop in the financial results of CC related to public regulation of coal prices. This impacts the security of coal supply.
Research limitations/implications
This study discusses the influence of legal and regulatory policy risks in a coal power generation supply chain and the implications of the SS index as a management tool.
Originality/value
A novel SS index is presented and empirically operationalized, and its dimensions – environmental, occupational, operational, economic-financial and supply capacity – are analyzed.
Nowadays, several businesses use Enterprise Architecture (EA) to plan execution of projects. A service station of Thailand is a complex business comprising related vehicle services and other sub-businesses, perhaps including a petrol station, an engine oil and spare parts shop, a vehicle repair services, and a motel. A service station is a case study of this research. The authors studied the concepts to choose an appropriate EA framework. The authors determined a representative sample group: managers chosen from 252 service stations from the top 6 gasoline brands. Questionnaires were designed and distributed were used to assess the threshold range. The total accepted criteria scores can specify an appropriate EA framework. The authors designed and offered the EA service station framework as a template by combining the concepts of EA with digital transformation. The composition of a new service station EA framework was therefore developed as a guideline based on the architectural composition of the EA framework. Also, this new EA can be applied to future work.
Globalisation brought an electronic communications reliance, as well as some repercussions on the world’s states, mainly in the sphere of cyber security. In recent years after the events in Ukraine, the cyber threat became a certainty and risk. We must be conscious that cyber attacks will grow up considerably, and one of their forms is the hybrid war, with its conventional and non-conventional, military and non-military capabilities. The emergence of a new battlefield – the cyberspace – is a reality, where military operations are carried out through sophisticated technology. For this purpose, states need to increase their cyber defence capabilities to prevent and combat aggression from the virtual environment to critical infrastructure, communications systems, and last but not least, the people.
