Acid mine drainage (AMD), arising from mineral resource exploitation, has transformed into a significant global environmental issue for the mining sector, posing considerable risks to water, soil, ecosystems, and human health. In this study, the current status and cutting-edge dynamics of AMD remediation research were evaluated using a bibliometrics approach. Publications on AMD remediation were collected from the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) database, and the relevant literature was analyzed quantitatively using various statistical methods, including keyword co-occurrence and burst analysis. In total, 2743 articles related to AMD remediation published from 1990 to 2023 were obtained. The number of publications tended to increase annually, with a relatively fast rate of increase in recent years. Recent research related to AMD remediation has mainly focused on the ecological risks, the environmental geochemical cycling, the application of sulfate-reducing bacteria and adsorption, and the recovery of heavy metals (HMs) and rare earth elements (REEs). It is anticipated that these topics of AMD remediation research are expected to be at the forefront of future research endeavors. In addition, the current status, advantages, and challenges of AMD remediation technologies are discussed from both active and passive management perspectives, providing a theoretical basis and reference for AMD remediation.

The present paper explores how industrial symbiosis emergence unfolds within port industrial areas. A multiple case study shows how industrial symbiosis emerges through partnering and stakeholder processes that take the form of collaborative business models. Focusing on actors, platforms for collaboration, and content of stakeholder processes, the study identifies drivers for industrial symbiosis emergence, including the importance of geographical proximity and agglomeration, which identify port industrial areas as natural habitats for industrial symbiosis. A defining characteristic of industrial symbiosis emergence within port industrial areas is the collective effort of actors to bridge economic, environmental, and social objectives across private and public sectors. Finally, the paper suggests that future research on industrial symbiosis and the emergence thereof within port industrial areas may benefit from insights into corporate social responsibility and the emerging field of servitisation.

Mandatory policy networks are an important collaborative governance model for crisis response. To reveal the operation and effectiveness of public sector-led crisis governance at the development zone level, this study draws on collaborative governance theory to develop a theoretical framework that reveals the external constraints, collaborative dynamics, collaborative actions, and collaborative outcomes of crisis governance in development zones. Based on qualitative research methods, this study analyzes pandemic prevention policy documents issued during the pandemic by China's national economic and technological development zones and their localities to reflect the complete process of governance. The findings indicate that a mandatory policy network, guided by a local governance framework, facilitated the rapid achievement of collaboration in development zones in responding to the crisis. Top-down leadership developed over time in the public sector, and the responsiveness and innovation of enterprises and social organizations played an important role in collaborative governance. Wins at each stage of the governance process are necessary for the continuation of collaborative actions and can drive the adaptation of a collaborative approach in development zones.

Inconsistencies of the single multi-criteria decision making (SMCD) methods in criteria weight assessment make them unreliable and have led to the wrong siting of industrial parks, which are often abandoned as brownfields that emit GHG. Eco-industrial parks (EIPs) are replacing brownfields but require robust decision-making tools to weigh and rank suitable locations for industry clusters' synergies. Integrated multi-criteria decision making (IMCDM) to address the weaknesses and strengthen the advantages of SMCDM methods, and a model to overlay criteria weights and spatial data easily and accurately were developed. The spatial criteria data for 2009 and 2019 from Tanjung Langsat Industrial Area were collected and prepared by GIS to test the SMCDM and IMCMD consistency weighting and the model resilience. The SMCDM (AHP, ANP and F-AHP) and the IMCDM weights with the 2009 criteria data identified the entire water bodies around the brownfield as suitable sites, making them inconsistent. The 2019 data with the SMCDM weights identified tiny sites as best, also making them inconsistent. The integrated hierarchy network fuzzy analytic process (HN-FAP) and the hierarchy network analytic process (HNAP) with the 2019 criteria data identified part of the water bodies as suitable making it inconsistent. The hierarchy fuzzy analytic process (H-FAP) and the network fuzzy hierarchy analytic process (NFh-AP) identified larger suitable sites without overlaps making them consistent algorithms. The H-FAP and NFh-AP procedures eliminate the weaknesses and consolidate the strengths, giving optimally consistent criteria weights. The two algorithms' consistency and the model efficiency can use different criteria weights and spatial data inputs from elsewhere for 4IR-driven EIP modelling to help brownfield-EIP stakeholders. Future research would address the reverse ranking of MCDM methods when alternatives are added or removed.

This study introduces the understudied concept of circular industrial parks (CIPs), which extend the commonly acknowledged initial role of eco-industrial parks (EIPs) in waste management and energy efficiency. CIPs give a new perspective on EIPs literature by integrating circular business models (CBMs) related to broader aspects of the circular economy (CE), while promoting collaboration with local communities to enhance social, environmental, and economic outcomes. By applying the Sustainable Value Framework (SVF) and the UNIDO EIPs framework, this study provides a comprehensive analysis of how CIPs create value, the strategic stakes for practitioners and policy makers, and a roadmap for their development. The study concludes that CIPs have the potential to drive CE at the local level differently from traditional EIPs and provides actionable strategies for practitioners and policymakers to facilitate their success. They enable the clustering of businesses committed to CE and facilitate the development of new CBMs by providing space for collaboration, innovation, resilience and improved infrastructure for energy and resource use at costs that would be difficult to achieve independently. CIPs also increase the visibility of CBMs within their region and strengthen the role of CE by serving as local hubs for the distribution of resources and goods. This research contributes to the academic and practical understanding of CIPs and opens avenues for further exploration and field studies. While further field studies are needed, CIPs are seen as powerful catalysts for CE and industrial symbiosis.
Industrial parks are the central units for the development and aggregation of industries, playing an important role in implementing China’s “dual-carbon” strategy. Zero-carbon industrial parks represent a new form of development for future industrial parks and how to build them has become a focus of current research. This paper provides a concise overview and future prospects of the pathways and key technologies for achieving zero-carbon industrial parks. Firstly, the concept and connotation of zero-carbon industrial parks are analyzed. Secondly, the pathways for achieving zero-carbon industrial parks are summarized by analyzing the characteristics of different types of parks. Thirdly, from the aspects of Integrated Energy System Planning, hydrogen energy storage and applications, CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage), and other aspects of the key technologies needed for zero-carbon industrial parks are outlined. Finally, an analysis and outlook on the challenges faced in the construction of zero-carbon industrial parks are provided.
