Representative animal studies demonstrating the effectiveness and mechanism of candidate gut bacteria in AP progression
Source publication
Acute pancreatitis (AP) is characterized by autodigestion of the pancreas, and some patients may rapidly progress to systemic inflammation, pancreatic necrosis, and multi-organ failure. Numerous studies have detailed the bidirectional communication networks between the pancreas and the intestinal microbiota, as well as its metabolites. Such crossta...

... eliminate concerns about potential false-positive results and gain a comprehensive spectrum of the intestinal microbiome in AP, we focused primarily on the microbiota that underwent significant changes and consistently impacted AP in at least two independent metagenomic datasets from animal and clinical studies. Through this research, links between fourteen commensal bacteria and the progression of AP in animal models were established (Table 1). ...Similar publications
Introduction
The gut microbiota plays an important role in the health of dogs, but treatment with antibiotics causes marked dysbiosis. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the impact of yeast probiotic Saccharomyces cerevisiae supplementation on the fecal microbiota of dogs and its potential to prevent dysbiosis induced by antibiotics.

... Emerging research suggests that alterations in gut microbiota may influence the severity of acute pancreatitis. Dysbiosis can exacerbate the inflammatory response and contribute to the development of complications, indicating a potential area for therapeutic intervention [10]. ...
Abdominal pain is one of the common presentations presented to the emergency department. Acute pancreatitis is one of the lethal causes in that list of differential diagnoses of patients with abdominal pain. Identifying and managing such patients in a timely fashion is of utmost importance. Emergency diagnosis and management can be critical in predicting mortality, and the help of scores can guide physicians in prompt management. This chapter will help the readers recognize the presentation, diagnosis/early recognition, and severity of acute pancreatitis in patients. Furthermore, the chapter will focus on the emergency management of such critical patients and deciding their disposition.
