These studies reported that relational coordination bringing efficiency and quality outcomes and additionally positively leading to other favorable customers, client and employee-related outcomes in various healthcare and non-healthcare settings (e.g. Naruse, Sakai, & Nagata, 2016;Lundstrom, 2014;Carmeli & Gittell, 2009;Hagigi, 2012). Relational coordination is an emerging HR-related concept based on the network of ties between task participants and is expected to produce favorable efficiency and quality outcome. The relational coordination-employee outcome is new research dimension in the relational coordination field. The objective of the study was to test if relational coordination leads to employee related outcomes. In terms of research methodology, we followed the positivism paradigm, used deductive approach, and quantitative method of data collection and analysis. Furthermore, we used the survey based on previously developed measures for data collection. Through stratified random sampling, data is collected from doctors, nurses, and support staff from five public and five private sector hospitals. The usable questionnaires were 978. Our findings show that relational coordination among staff positively influence the employee creative involvement (employee outcome). The findings have implications for the management of healthcare and a number of recommendations are made.

Relationel koordinering har tiltrukket sig betydelig opmærksomhed på sundhedsområdet. Relationel koordinering appellerer til både det medicinskfaglige perspektiv og arbejdslivsperspektivet, idet relationel koordinering tilbyder en teori og et måleredskab, der kan afdække produktivitet, behandlingskvalitet og trivsel på samme tid. Dette er ideelt i forbindelse med organisatorisk forandring, da man med udgangspunkt i relationel koordinering-og arbejde med relationer og kommunikation i arbejdet-vil kunne øge både trivsel og kvaliteten i arbejdet. Denne artikel rejser spørgsmålet om, det gennem et forandringsprojekt reelt er muligt at måle ændringer i samarbejde og relationer. Artiklen belyser teorien og præsenterer data fra 11 forandringsprojekter, som udviser meget små ændringer i relationel koordinering. Ændringerne står i kontrast til interviews i projekterne, som peger på betydelige ændringer i samarbejde og relationer. Det er dermed tvivlsomt, hvad måling af relationel koordinering faktisk betyder, og disse målinger skal dermed behandles med varsomhed i konkrete forandringsaktiviteter.
Hvordan hænger begreberne om social kapital og relationel koordinering sammen? I hvilken grad er der overensstemmelse mellem målinger af det ene og det andet, og kan man sige, at det ene er mere grundlæggende end det andet? Med udgangspunkt i spørgeskemadata fra ældreplejen i fem danske kommuner undersøger vi disse spørgsmål. Resultaterne peger på, at der er tale om sammenhængende, men langt fra fuldt overlappende begreber. Resultaterne understøtter en antagelse om, at social kapital medierer sammenhængen mellem relationel koordinering og hhv. psykisk velbefindende, involvering og oplevet kvalitet i arbejdet. Diskussionen af resultaterne lægger grunden for mere generelle overvejelser over karakteren og den praktiske anvendelighed af målinger af social kapital og relationel koordinering for virksomheder og arbejdspladser.
