... MCNS typically presents between the ages of 2 -6 years, with a slight male predominance. In some patients oedema develops insidiously starting with peri- orbital oedema only (Fig. 3), whereas in others rapid fluid accumulation leads to the development of anasarca (generalised oedema, ascites and pleural effusions). In most cases there is no history of a preceding infection. Blood pressure is usually normal but may be elevated in those with fluid overload.
