... for these locations additional calculation were made assuming air conditioning was used in the periods where the combination of high ventilation rate (300 m 3 h -1 sow -1 ), pad cooling and high air velocity (2.4 ms -1 ) was insufficient avoid an Effective Temperature above 25 ⁰C. These calculations were made with an assumed air velocity during air conditioning of either 0.2 or 2.4 ms -1 and the resulting electricity consumption for air condition is indicated in Table 5. Compared to use air conditioning already when the outdoor temperatures exceeded 23 ⁰C (as assumed in Table 1) utilization of pad cooling and increased air velocity before switching to air conditioning reduced the power consumption for air condition by 72-91 percent at an air velocity of 0.2 ms -1 . ...
