Digital sources are more prevalent than ever but effectively using them can be challenging. One core challenge is that digitized sources are often distributed, thus forcing researchers to spend time collecting, interpreting, and aligning different sources. A knowledge graph can accelerate research by providing a single connected source of truth that humans and machines can query. During two design-test cycles, we convert four data sets from the historical maritime domain into a knowledge graph. The focus during these cycles is on creating a sustainable and usable approach that can be adopted in other linked data conversion efforts. Furthermore, our knowledge graph is available for maritime historians and other interested users to investigate the daily business of the Dutch East India Company through a unified portal.

By incorporating the benefits derived from the use of semantic web data and the principles of linked data in the enterprise information system, Linked Data becomes a novel approach for the integration of data in the business context. In this paper, a Linked Enterprise Data approach is applied for improving the information management, aimed at solving the lack of interoperability between the various data sources involved during the resource planning process of the operation plant in “La Empresa de Mensajería y Cambio Internacional”. A Linked Enterprise Data procedure is presented, based on characteristic aspects of the business context, being this attribute the main distinction of the proposed method, compared to others consulted in the literature. The viability of the Linked Enterprise Data procedure designed is shown by means of its application to the process of pre-warnings in the enterprise studied.

RESUMEN
El enfoque de datos enlazados resulta particularmente novedoso para la integración de datos en el contexto empresarial, al incorporar los beneficios derivados del empleo de estándares de la web semántica y los principios de los datos enlazados en el sistema de información de la empresa. En este artículo se aplica dicho enfoque para incidir en la mejora de la gestión de información, orientada a solucionar la carencia de interoperabilidad entre las diversas fuentes de datos que se involucran
durante el proceso de planificación de los recursos de la planta de operaciones en la Empresa de Mensajería y Cambio Internacional. Se presenta un procedimiento de Datos Empresariales Enlazados, basado en aspectos característicos del contexto empresarial, siendo esta la principal distinción del método propuesto, respecto a otros consultados en la literatura. La viabilidad del procedimiento diseñado se muestra con su aplicación al proceso de prealertas en la empresa estudiada.
ABSTRACT
The Linked Data approach is particularly novel to integrate data in the enterprise settings. When incorporating, the benefits stem from the use of semantic web standards and the data linked principles at the enterprise information systems. In the article, this approach was applied to influence the improvement of information management, aiming to solve the lack of interoperability among the various data sources involved in the resource planning process of the operation plant in la Empresa de Mensajería y Cambio Internacional. A tailored Linked Enterprise Data procedure to the enterprise features was presented, being this its primary distinctive attribute, compared to those consulted in the literature. The procedure viability demonstrated through its application to the prewarnings
process of the studied enterprise.
