The increasing importance of sustainability has put pressure on organisations to assess their supply chain sustainability performance, which requires a holistic set of key performance indicators (KPIs) related to strategic, tactical and operational decision making of firms. This paper presents a comprehensive set of KPIs for sustainable supply chain management using a mixed method approach including analysing data from the literature survey, content analysis of sustainability reports of manufacturing firms and expert interviews. A 3-level hierarchical model is developed by classifying the identified KPIs into key sustainability dimensions as well as key supply chain decision-making areas including strategic, tactical and operational. A novel multi-attribute decision-making (MADM) based sustainability assessment framework is proposed. The proposed framework integrates value focussed thinking (VFT), intuitionistic fuzzy (IF) Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and IF Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) methods. The novelty of the research lies in (1) using a rigorous mixed method approach for KPIs identification and industrial validation (2) the development of a novel integrated intuitionistic sustainability assessment framework for decision making and (3) the innovative application of the proposed framework and associated methodologies in the context not explored before. The practical data on the performance ratings of various KPIs were obtained from the experts and a novel intuitionistic fuzzy TOPSIS was applied to benchmark the organisations for their sustainability performance. Furthermore, the case study shows the applicability of the proposed framework to evaluate and identify the problem areas of the organisations and yield guidance on KPIs by recognising the most significant areas requiring improvement. This research contributes to the practical implication by providing an innovative sustainability assessment framework for supply chain managers to evaluate and manage sustainability performance by making informed decisions related to KPIs.

The objectives of this study are threefold: to identify the three factors of supplier sustainability; to calculate the gap ratio of the three factors; and to prioritise the gaps in terms of their importance ratings. For this purpose, a healthcare service supplier has been investigated as a case study. Base on literature review, the indicators of the three factors of supplier sustainability of healthcare service have been identified and confirmed using content validity analysis. Then, by calculating the expectation and perception of indicators, the gap of the three factors of supplier sustainability has been computed and finally, the gaps have been prioritised in terms of their importance ratings. Findings indicated that the supplier under study had a negative gap in all of the indicators of the three factors of ustainability and its highest and lowest gaps were related to the economic and environmental factors, respectively.

L’objectif de cette thèse est d’étudier l’impact du KM et du TQM sur l’efficacité du personnel et sur la performance du SC à travers une enquête menée auprès des entreprises Tunisiennes. Ainsi, 206 réponses ont été collectées et analysées à l’aide du logiciel “SPSS V24”. Le dépouillement de ce questionnaire a permis d’identifier un modèle conceptuel et de réaliser une analyse par la Méthode d’Equation Structurelle “MES” par le logiciel “AMOS V24”. Les résultats obtenus montrent que le TQM et le KM ont un impact positif sur l’efficacité du personnel. De même, le KM et l’efficacité du personnel ont un impact positif sur la performance du SC. Néanmoins, le TQM n’a pas un impact direct sur la performance du SC, mais il existe un impact indirect via son impact sur l’efficacité du personnel. Par ailleurs, et à travers l’application d’un modèle mathématique non linéaire “LINGO version 18.0”, on a constaté que les stratégies les plus importantes pour maximiser la performance de la chaîne logistique et l’efficacité du personnel avec un budget de 25 milles dinars Tunisien sont les stratégies suivantes: leadership, gestion des ressources humaines, acquisition des connaissances, création des connaissances, application des connaissances, partage/ transfert des connaissances, capitalisation des connaissances. Cependant, les stratégies les moins importantes sont la gestion des processus, l’analyse de l’information et l’amélioration continue.

The sustainable logistics business case (SLBC) provides underlying argumentation to convince decision makers to approve initiatives within sustainable logistics. Little knowledge exists on how companies conduct SLBCs or the challenges that need to be addressed. The purpose of this paper is to explore how companies conduct SLBCs, to increase the understanding of how perceived challenges can be addressed. Potential challenges were identified in literature on business cases models in general and sustainable logistics business cases. As third-party logistics providers (3PL) are big contributors to emissions and often are responsible for designing logistics setups, they were focused in the empirical study. How SLBC were conducted was investigated based on interviews with managers responsible for conducting SLBCs and the responses triangulated with information derived from actual business cases. Despite the careful selection of 3PLs well ahead within the area, few challenges were perceived by the studied companies. This does not imply that challenges do not exist but can rather be described as a consequence of their pragmatic and inward-looking perspective. Examples of how to address challenges are provided. The compiled list of SLBC challenges provides an overview that was missing in literature.

This paper presents to identify opportunities and gaps of research for the integration of sustainable development, lean, and logistics concepts into a lean sustainable logistics model. Conceptual evaluation is the first step to understand the main points and link each concept. These concepts consist of four components, including the goals, elements, benefits, and limitations of each. The three relationships investigated in this research consist of the interfaces of sustainable development and logistics management, sustainable development and lean concept, and lean concept and logistics management. Following the conceptual evaluations and interfaces among them, the three concepts are integrated into a lean sustainable logistics model. There are four stages, comprising discordant action, proficiency, cooperation, and interdependence, for analysing the constructed model combination of lean sustainable logistics. Then the lean sustainable logistics model can be synthesised for implementation in organisations to achieve long-term benefits.

This study aims to explore research and to identify research clusters on sustainable development by using bibliometric analysis. The sustainable development field is examined using the selected research articles. A co-citation unit is used to analyze the relationship between cited documents, and then science mapping is used to identify clusters in this relationship. The results show that there are four main distinct clusters, of which the most important concerns sustainable supply chains and logistics management. This cluster is then classified into five bunches of knowledge sources. These bunches illustrate the need for a trend in sustainability issues that includes a social dimension to balance economic and environmental dimensions for long-term development. There are logistics management and lean concepts that can be applied to sustainable development to move toward business sustainability. The future direction of sustainable business concerns economic values, environmental policy and stakeholder engagement for business opportunities. The contribution of this article is to identify trends in sustainable development by means of bibliometric analysis, to develop research in the future.

Many manufacturers and retailers often outsource their logistics functions to Logistics Service Providers (LSPs) to focus more on their core business process. Due to the competitiveness and the popularity of the sustainability concept, those organizations evaluate their prospective LSPs not only based on economic aspects like cost, service quality but also on social and environmental aspects as well when selecting LSPs. This paper proposes a methodology that can be used by organizations when evaluating and selecting LSPs based on their sustainability performance. Analytic Network Process (ANP) is used in evaluating the LSPs’ sustainable performance since multiple dimensions and indicators need to be incorporated when measuring the sustainability performance. A Linear Programming Problem (LPP) model was proposed which allows the organizations to decide both desired number of LSPs and the volume to be allocated for those selected LSPs. The proposed methodology is flexible as it depends on the sustainability requirements of the organization when selecting LSPs. Both the indicators and their relative importance are up to the organization to decide.

Both the International Education Organization (OIE) and UNESCO have stated that promoting collaborative activities is a key competence for sustainable development. This postulate focuses on collaboration with local and international networks. In this line, it is important to mention that, in each teamwork, the members are people who interact sharing objectives, rules and deadlines linked to the activity. Under this reality, it is essential to promote study-team activities in higher education, where students can develop skills to solve problems in multidisciplinary groups. To support the process of generating efficient study-teams, in this investigation we present a system capable of exploring the best alternatives to automatically organize homogeneous study-teams that favor the best performance. Our proposal uses a personalized genetic algorithm (GA), based on student learning styles and academic profile. The experimentation phase has yielded positive results compared to the self-organization method or the teacher imposition method.
