... Regarding research, extension, and innovation approaches, the university's strong commitment to research, extension, and innovation initiatives responsive to the needs of the community and society can be observed within the university setting. There has been a notable rise in research productivity among faculty researchers, particularly in the description of new Coleoptera species, one named after the university -Gauromaia dorsu (Medina et al., 2023). The study also included the quality of graduates, where students recognized the ability of the university to prepare graduates for their future careers by helping them become effective problem solvers, critical thinkers, and socially responsible citizens. ...

The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the global educational system, necessitating the adoption of new learning modalities and paradigm shifts. In the Philippines, this move has prompted questions regarding the effectiveness of the new normal education system and its influence on student satisfaction. This research sought to investigate student satisfaction toward higher education services and regenerative futures positioning in the context of new normal education at a government university in Davao Oriental, Philippines. A multiple linear regression model involving 600 respondents was developed to show the influence of 17 impact factors on student satisfaction. Teaching methods and initiatives, student organization engagement, research, extension and innovation strategy, access to inclusive education, and the quality of graduates and education are all significant predictors of student satisfaction. However, students are concerned about internet connectivity, as the absence of free and reliable Wi-Fi services in the university incurs additional expenses on their part. In addition, regenerative futures positioning is not fully understood by the students but is seen to be relevant to student satisfaction. Along this line, there should be a continuing effort to mainstream Regenerative Futures (RgF) across disciplines to ensure that students develop awareness, appreciation, and engagement. Educational institutions should integrate RgF principles into curricula, pedagogy, and institutional policies, fostering a learning environment that promotes long-term sustainability, innovation, and social responsibility. Future studies are recommended to regularly evaluate student satisfaction to provide fundamental information for institutional planning and development.
... In the two last decades new impetus has been given to the study of the Tenebrionidae in the Philippines (Ando 2011, Ando & Ichiyangi 2009, Ando & Ruzzier, 2016, Ando & Yamasako 2021, Medina et al. 2022, 2023, Ruzzier 2020, 2024, Schawaller 2006, Ueda et al. 2008; however, apart from the records presented in Ruzzier 2024, the last studies on the subfamily Lagriinae Latreille, 1825 in the area date back to Borchmann's and Gebien's work in the first half of the 20 th century (Borchmann 1911, 1916, 1930, 1932, 1936, Gebien 1921. ...

The ants of the volcanic caldera of Mt. Melibengoy in the Allah Valley Watershed Forest Reserve (AVWFR), are surveyed, principally by opportunistic collecting. We report 87 ant species representing 33 genera in six subfamilies. We also report three new species records for the Philippines in addition to 13 new distributional records for Mindanao Island. The new Philippine Bolton, 2000. The high diversity of ants detected by opportunistic hand collecting suggests that a more intensive survey, using a variety of collecting techniques, will very likely discover more new species and new distributional records from Mt. Melibengoy. The very diverse native ant community also provides as basis for the high conservation priority of the AVWFR. The knowledge gap of Mindanao ant diversity and its affinity to Bornean ant diversity are briefly discussed.
... The Philippine Archipelago is one of the major biodiversity hotspots globally (Myers et al. 2000). This communication discusses the perennial gender disparity in science, focusing on the underrepresentation of women in research and leadership roles, particularly in specialized fields like Coleopterology. Significant barriers continue to hinder women's participation in scientific fields. The case of Dr. Analyn Anzano Cabras, a noted Filipino weevil specialist, exemplifies the need to celebrate iconic women scientists to inspire future generations and promote gender equality in academia. This paper also presents Dr. Cabras as an iconic woman scientist and a celebrated Coleopterist whose contributions to science led to the discovery of approximately a hundred beetle species. She has also mentored many budding scholars, making her legacy an indelible mark in Philippine biodiversity research and conservation. This study advocates for increased visibility, mentorship, and support for women in science, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals on gender equality (SDG 5).

Gauromaia dives Pascoe, 1866, type species of the genus, is redescribed; Celebesa Pic, 1921, hitherto a genus in Cnodalonini oken, 1843, is downgraded in rank to a subgenus of Gauromaia Pascoe, 1866. The subgeneric rank is confirmed for Gauromaia (Falsogauromaia Pic, 1921). The following new combinations are proposed: G. (Celebesa) elongata (Pic, 1921) comb. nov., G. (C.) impressa (Pic, 1923) comb. nov., G. (C.) latipennis (Pic, 1921) comb. nov., G. (C.) striata (Pic, 1923) comb. nov., and the synonym Celebesa purpurea (Pic, 1921) syn. nov. is introduced for Gauromaia (Celebesa) angustior (Pic, 1921) comb. nov. lectotype designations are made for five species: Gauromaia dives, Gauromaia (Celebesa) angustior, Gauromaia (Celebesa) purpurea, Gauromaia (Celebesa) elongata, and Gauromaia (Falsogauromaia) annulipes Pic, 1921. An annotated checklist of Gauromaia species, a key to its subgenera, and a key to the species of the subgenus Celebesa are presented for the first time. New faunistic records of Gauromaia (Celebesa) and G. (Falsogauromaia) are provided.
