The main aim for the preparation of a poly herbal hand sanitizer is for “hand hygiene”. It is a vital principle in the prevention, control, and reduction of any acquired infection. Mainly hand sanitizer can stop the chain of transmission of micro organisms and other bacteria from hand to different parts of our body. Hand hygiene is important and on...

The scientific study linked to the physical, chemical, biological, and structural characterization of drugs along with their history of cultivation, collection and preparation for marketing and preservation, is defined as pharmacognosy. The cardinal routes of the entry of various infections into our body are our hands. The infection caused thereby causes a spectrum of diseases, especially in children. To get rid of such infections, regular washing of hands after specific time intervals holds imperative cognizance of getting rid of such infectious diseases. The handwash available in the local markets is mainly composed of various chemical compounds which might pose several threats to our skin. In this notion, the search for alternate components for handwash preparation that are organic in nature and do not cause any damage to our skin has been in the research limelight for the past few years. Accordingly, in this research, an attempt has been made to prepare a skin-friendly handwash containing the essential extracts of various ingredients like Aloe vera, turmeric, honey, tulsi, lemon, etc., and thereby their antimicrobial and antiseptic efficacy were evaluated. The basis of the evaluation was set using multivariate criteria like odour, colour, viscosity, pH, foam height and retention, and grittiness. Finally, the skin irritation test was also carried out along with a few other parameters to draw conclusions regarding the suitability of the handwash for human usage. The obtained results were found within the desired ranges without the presence of any adverse side effects. Thus, the proposed scheme of this study may be regarded as an excellent approach to combat the harmful effects of commercial chemicals containing handwash and, thereby, will be beneficial to various stakeholders.
... Formulations of herbal hand sanitizer gels: Herbal hand sanitizer gel formulations (containing EOs), and blank gel (without EOs) were prepared based on methods given in previous studies (29)(30) and standard industrial guidelines.(31) Different formulations of hand sanitizer gels were prepared, as shown in Table 1. ...
... Then triethanolamine at a concentration of 0.7% w/w was added drop-wise with slow stirring at 500 rpm until pH 7 was reached. (29)(30)(31)The mixture was kept aside for 24 hours to complete the swelling of the polymer. The resultant gel base was used to prepare different hand sanitizer formulations. ...

Purpose: The usage of herbal-based antibacterial sanitizers is increasing, and they have considerably shown fewer side-effects than sanitizers with synthetic compounds. In the present study, essential oils obtained from cinnamon and lime were used to formulate hand sanitizer gels, and their efficacy was evaluated. Method: Three different hand sanitizer gel formulations were prepared using cinnamon oil (Formulation A), lime oil (Formulation B) and a mixture of cinnamon and lime oil (Formulation C). Carbopol 940 was used as the gelling agent. Tests for organoleptic, physicochemical characteristics and stability were conducted on the prepared formulations. The antibacterial activity of the prepared formulations was evaluated using the agar diffusion method. All three formulations were compared with a commercial liquid hand wash product for their in vitro antibacterial activity. Three-way ANOVA with Tukey's honestly significant difference test was used to compare the antibacterial activity of the hand sanitizer gel formulations. Stability of the three hand sanitizer formulations were assessed. Results: Considerable differences in the pH and viscosity were not observed between the prepared hand sanitizer gel formulations. However, considerable changes in the spreadability were observed between the prepared hand sanitizer gel formulations. A statistically significant difference in antibacterial activity was observed among the three hand sanitizer gels and the commercial hand wash (p<0.05). Formulation C showed the highest antibacterial activity among the prepared hand sanitizer formulations. Based on the stability studies, Formulation A was found to be the most stable. Conclusion: Hand sanitizer gel containing a mixture of cinnamon and lime oils showed the highest antibacterial activity among prepared formulations. However, the most stable formulation was the hand sanitizer gel containing cinnamon oil.

The aim of present work was to prepare formulations of poyherbal handwash from the methanolic extracts of leaves of Mimosa pudica, Azadirachta indica and Glycyrrhiza glabra. Formulations of polyherbal hand wash were prepared and the formulations were evaluated for physical properties like appearance, pH, viscosity, grittiness, spreadability, cleaning action, and foam height. The antimicrobial activity of prepared formulations of polyherbal hand wash was checked against skin pathogens Bacillus subtilus, Staphylococcus aureus, Psuedomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli by agar diffusion method. The results revealed that prepared herbal hand wash formulations showed significant zone of inhibition compared with standard (marketed formulations). So, these plant materials can be used in the preparation of polyherbal hand wash on commercially scale.
