As university students, it is crucial for them to understand the process of selecting the most suitable student leader based on the current criteria. This research aims to gather input from the high committee of the student club, providing a set of guidelines for students to identify the appropriate criteria for selecting a fitting leader within the university. Additionally, this study serves to motivate aspiring candidates who wish to take up leadership roles, inspiring them to refine the criteria identified through the study. At Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM), there exist several clubs that function as representatives of student leadership. Each club has shown their own trend leadership criteria in accordance with students’ obsecration. Employing the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) methodology, this research aimed to establish a ranking of the top student clubs at UPNM. The outcomes can serve as a point of reference for managing the selection by Student Council Representatives (SRC) and simplifying student decision-making. The study encompasses crucial criteria distilled from the questionnaire, with communication, creativity, commitment, and teamwork emerging as the four paramount factors. The method commonly uses a multiple-choice question (MCQ) to select which criteria are most relevant then rank the criteria by using the AHP method. This study involves the high committee of the 5 clubs in UPNM as an expert to compare 3 of the selected clubs as an alternative with 60% of the respondents were male, and 40% were females. The result shows that communication (0.52) is the highest criteria followed by teamwork, commitment and creative with 0.26, 0.14 and 0.08 weightage respectively. Hence, this also affects the alternatives with the highest is Debate Club followed by Peers Leader and MPP UPNM respectively.
... In such multinational organizations, the main advantages brought by resourceful leaders include motivating employees and developing organizational cultures (Chuang, 2013). The extant literature reveals that different criteria should be used in the leader evaluation process (Chen and Hung, 2012;Omar et al., 2015;Sandhya and Garg, 2016). With this in mind, operations research concepts, such as multi-criteria decisionmaking (MCDM) techniques, have come to help model multifaceted problems (Hö fer et al., 2020;Keefer et al., 2004;Methling et al., 2022). ...

Purpose Business schools play a significant role in providing individuals with the ability to adapt to constantly changing environments. Such agile organizations require deans who, as leaders, possess the knowledge and attributes of astute and responsible executives. In this regard, the measurement of the attributes of leadership paves the way for evaluating a leader’s options process. In this study, we measure the attributes of leadership to pave the way for evaluating a leader’s decision-making process. Design/methodology/approach The rich data included the opinions of 93 university professors from seven countries: Iran, India, China, France, the UK, Canada and the USA. In appraising the responses, the authors considered the nationality and the development level of each participant’s country and continent. In this study, the authors developed an online questionnaire based on the best-worst method (BWM). By performing a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), the authors also determined the significant statistical differences of the scientific communities through the lenses of authentic leadership, leader-member exchange and social identity and leadership. Findings The results provide evidence of transparency, measured as the most important criterion for leading a business school, i.e. knowledgeable deanship. Furthermore, the findings reveal a meaningful difference between developed and developing countries in the context of an authentic leadership pillar. Originality/value This paper contributed to the literature in five major ways as follows: The authors investigated the attitudes of scientific communities from different countries, business schools, BWM, dean selection and leadership evaluation.By means of the BWM, the authors measured the criteria culminating in the selection of a knowledgeable leader for a business school. The authors compared and contrasted the attitudes of scientific communities in developing countries vis-à-vis those in developed ones. The authors addressed the differences and similarities among countries in relation to the selection of a knowledgeable business school leader. The authors provided beneficial insights by addressing the different perspectives of researchers on the weights of the criteria involved in the selection procedure for a business school dean.

Service-oriented architecture (SOA) and Internet services technologies offer advanced solutions for creating distributed business processes and applications. At the same time, services must be available to a growing number of users and satisfy their requirements for both functional and non-functional properties of services. The problem of services selection based on the quality of services is formulated as a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) problem. MCDM methods typically require preliminary normalization of the criteria, which in turn can significantly affect the results of multi-criteria problem resolving. In this paper, the effects of commonly known normalization techniques (MAX-MIN, VECTOR, MAX, SUM and LOG) on the ranking Web services using a method of Logic Scoring of Preference (LSP) are investigated. As an outcome of study conducted, the approach to the usage of the Vector, Sum and Max techniques to normalize the criteria when applying the LSP method has been proposed.

Context: Software team formation is an important project management activity. However, forming appropriate teams is a challenge for most of the companies. Objective: To analyze and synthesize the state of the art on the software team formation research. Additionally, we aim to organize the identified body of knowledge in software team formation as a taxonomy. Method: Using a Snowballing-based systematic mapping study, 51 primary studies, out of 2516, were identified and analyzed. We classified the studies considering the research methods used, their overall quality, and the characteristics of the formed teams and the proposed solutions. Results: The majority of the studies use search and optimization techniques in their approaches. Also, technical attributes are the most frequent type considered to build individuals’ profiles during the team formation process. Furthermore, we proposed a taxonomy on software team formation. Conclusion: There is a predominant use of search-based approaches that combine search and optimization techniques with technical attributes. However, the adoption of non-technical attributes as complementary information is a tendency. Regarding the research gaps, we highlight the level of subjectivity in software team formation and the lack of scalability of the proposed solutions.
... The vast majority of student teams for classwork are self-formed, formed randomly, or formed based on the instructor-determined criteria, where each of these formations engenders pros and cons (Decker, 1995;Mottner, 2009;Omar et al., 2015;Ounnas, Davis, & Millard, 2009).While random team formation entails the most efficiency as the least time-consuming method, instructor criteria-based formation represents conceptually the most effective yet least efficient approach (Bacon, Stewart, & Anderson, 2001;Bacon et al., 1999). While 96 percent of faculty agreed that students prefer self-selection over other methods, merely 48 percent of the students corroborated this sentiment (Burbach, Matkin, Gambrell, & Harding, 2010). ...

Firms and institutions of higher education alike emphasize the value of teamwork in increasing organizational performance. In this empirical study, the role of social ties on team performance is examined. The results indicate that there is an inverted-U relationship between average number of friends in a team and team performance, and that this relationship is negatively moderated by level of conflict. Based on the findings and assessment of extant approaches (random, self-formed, assigned), the authors propose a hybrid, two-stage team formation methodology to improve team performance while successfully satisfying relevant formation criteria.

Team formation is one of the essential elements in constructing effective teamwork of any team size that requires different skill sets. Diversity in team encourages students to challenge and compete with one another while searching for new ideas, which in turn can lead to a better team performance. In a well-functioning diverse teams, the students who performed poorly may gain benefit by observing how excellent students approach the assignments. They may also benefit by getting advice and assistance from the excellent students. Studies have shown that Malaysian university graduates lack of team skills. The purpose of this paper is to propose a framework for forming a diverse multidisciplinary team among engineering undergraduates based on selected criteria such as individual personality type, gender, and other relevant demographic information. The proposed framework can also be used to design an automated team-formation system based on the identified metrics. The purpose of the framework is to consolidate the existing team formation literature, and to develop and test interventions for maximizing individual member and team performance as a whole that makes an effective team. For this study, a multidisciplinary approach was used where first year engineering students from three different faculties, namely Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FKE), Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FKM), and Faculty of Biosciences and Medical Engineering (FBME) at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) worked on an innovation project using the Conceive, Design, Implement, and Operate (CDIO) framework.
