Sustainable urban mobility is presented as an anticipatory system in urban development processes. The future projection of socially inclusive, environmentally sustainable, and economically efficient territorial configurations allows for the improvement of public policies and city planning in the present. The chapter proposes an analysis of how the Quito Metro constitutes an anticipatory system in the growth of the metropolitan district, in the mitigation and adaptation to climate change, and in the socio-cultural dynamics of the population. Methodologically, a descriptive inference exercise is proposed through a qualitative case study. The collection and processing of information are based on academic secondary sources and official documents. The case of Quito shows that the Metro is built with an anticipatory approach, arising from a more comprehensive reading of mobility as a long-term policy. However, it constitutes an implicit or prospective anticipation based on the city’s planning model.
