... Clothing is a product segment of daily use that transposes the user's identity. Clothing designers should consider the functional, symbolic, and aesthetic aspects of the product's development consistent with the individuals' needs [1]. However, there is still a gap between fashion and consumers with specific needs related to a lack of the body's functional capacities [2,3]. ...
Chapter
Clothing is a layer that protects the body and translates the individual’s identity. Its use should promote well-being and quality of life, bringing comfort and satisfaction. The increase in longevity showed a new form of clothing consumption and, even more, when these users have some limiting conditions for manipulating and using, it can affect independence. Some people may have motor difficulties for dressing and need manual precision to be performed, such as those with slow movements, tremors, and involuntary movements (characteristics of Parkinson’s disease). In this way, the article aimed to understand some aspects of the elderlies’ perceived usability and consumption of clothing products (with Parkinson’s disease and neurologically matched healthy individuals). Therefore, a questionnaire was applied in a semi-structured interview to understand factors about consumption and usability. The results showed broad perceptions from the product development perspective about clothing and stages that can be difficult. Future studies should investigate more symbolic issues relevant to the product’s consumption, doing practical tests of daily clothes for the users and giving insights to industry and practitioners.KeywordsClothingUsabilityParkinson’s disease
... Usability and the principles of ergonomics are associated with the way a garment product has to wear the body, and usability should not be sacrificed by the appearance of the product (although this feature plays an important role in the process of communicating with the user) average which is a basic requirement for the competitiveness of the product, a commercial ally that increases sales, so the so-called "aesthetic appeal" will contribute to the success of the products, when it respects the expectations of the user, not only contributing to the fact that clothing is an easy product to be used but with the affectivity that occurs during the process of use, caused by the satisfaction of the wearer of a garment. The particularities of the body's involvement with clothing are translated through the comfort and well-being feelings of the wearer of that clothing, so the usability formulates performance goals for the product at the beginning of the process of creating garments [20]. ...
... So when a user is wearing a garment that is perceived by the user as not valuing the aesthetic factor, either because the garment does not "fit well" on the user's body or because of other reasons, users often report a feeling of uneasiness and discomfort, followed by the desire to change clothes as quickly possible, but if, on the other hand, a garment is well designed observing the desirable qualities, the person feels comfortable, experiencing the session of the body and clothing to merge, this being his/her "second skin" [20]. ICEUBI2019 According to ISO 1981 [28,29] usability is defined as: "[...] the effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction with which specific users achieve specific goals in particular environments". ...
... Regarding Efficiency, "[...] this refers to the amount of efforts that the individual accomplishes to achieve his goal", so if the product of the clothing was designed for the person to perform a certain professional task, with strategic devices to facilitate the fulfillment of the work, and if this was accomplished, then efficiency is achieved, so we can state that the concept of achieving efficiency for the fashion / clothing product is very comprehensive, especially with regard to aesthetic and symbolic, as in the case of Satisfaction, as this is related to the level of comfort and acceptability of the users when using the clothing product, therefore Satisfaction is considered as a very important aspect of the usability of the clothing, since it involves the user's feelings about the product, with respect to the comfort and acceptability that the garment transmits to them. Whenever the garment facilitates the body to assume a position of comfort and pleasantness, for certain physical action such as walking and moving the arms, without restrictions will cause Satisfaction to the user of that garment [20,21]. ...

It is possible to conclude that the importance of the scanning booth is key to an efficient anthropometric data collection, including the growth of this technology in the garment industry, Universities Research Institutes involved with anthropometric studies.

The jeans trousers are considered the most democratic of garments. Despite the constant innovations in raw materials and models, the user experience, however, is not always satisfactory, and many of its samples are uncomfortable or ill-fitting to body shapes and real contexts in which they are utilized. Focusing on the female body perception and jeans’ use varied needs, this paper presents – along with the review of the literature – the results of a quantitative study, of correlational nature, where questionnaires, with open and closed questions, both textual and imagistic, were applied to a sample of 120 women, mainly between 18 and 28 years old, in the Alto Uruguay region of the Rio Grande do Sul state, in Brazil. Following, the data analysis combined statistical and descriptive methods. As a result, it was found that, frequently, women of varying silhouettes correctly perceive their own bodies, and that they prefer to use trousers that tightly, but comfortably and functionally, model their bodies, through the use of more flexible textiles and models that cover them more and deform less. However, it was found that the pants usually have awkward characteristics, due to the lack of articulation among anthropometric, ergonomic and usability knowledge. The findings of this research, which were systematized along with initial recommendations, can guide the innovative design of this classic garment. Keywords: innovation, human factors, fashion design, jeans.

With the advent of technology, the computer became a working tool increasingly present in companies. Its purpose is to increase production and reduce the inherent errors in manual production. The aim of this study was to analyze the usability of 2D graphics software in creating clothing designs by a professional during his work. The movements of the mouse, keyboard and graphical tools were monitored in real time by software Camtasia 7 (R) installed on the user's computer. To register the use of mouse and keyboard we used auxiliary software called MouseMeter (R), which quantifies the number of times they pressed the right, middle and left mouse's buttons, the keyboard and also the distance traveled in meters by the cursor on the screen. Data was collected in periods of 15 minutes, 1 hour and 8 hours, consecutively. The results showed that the job is considered repetitive and high demands physical efforts, which can lead to the appearance of repetitive strain injuries. Thus, the goal of minimizing operator efforts and thereby enhance the usability of the examined tool, becomes imperative to replace the mouse by a device called tablet, which also offers an electronic pen and a drawing platform for design development.

To cut a fabric, the professional performs different jobs and among them stands out the cut. The scissors has been the instrument most used for this activity. Over the years, technology has been conquering its space in the textile industry. However, despite the industrial automation able to offer subsidies to answer employment market demands, without appropriate orientation, the worker is exposed to the risks inherent at the job. Ergonomics is a science that search to promote the comfort and well being in consonance with efficacy. Its goals are properly well defined and clearly guide the actions aimed at transforming the working conditions. This study aimed to analyze the activity of cut tissues with a machine by a seamstress and the implications on their body posture. The methodology used was the observation technique and application of the Protocol RULA, where the result obtained was the level 3 and score 5, confirming that "investigations and changes are required soon". Conclude that using the machine to tissue cut should be encouraged, but in conjunction with orientations for improving posture while handling it. It seeks to prevent dysfunction of the musculoskeletal system that prevents employees from performing their work tasks efficiently and productively.

The ideal of circular economy, in favor of sustainable development, suggests disruptive changes in several industry sectors, especially fashion, which has worldwide representativeness in terms of market movement and socio-environmental externalities and, through sustainable fashion, brings a business model proposal that reassesses the conventional supply chain. Considering this, this paper aims to understand the contemporary structure of the business supply chain of sustainable fashion from the circular economy. For this, it proceeds to the research of exploratory-descriptive character and of quali- quantitative approach, with the use of the semi-structured interview as a method of data survey and content analysis for data analysis. In this way, three supply chain structures are observed, far from the ideal of circularity, which allows us to conclude that sustainable fashion businesses, despite having values oriented to sustainability, still lack more practical actions that minimize the socio-environmental impacts of their products.
