Inward Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and economic growth possess a very central and pivotal importance in the economic development of any country. Keeping this in view, Saudi Arabia is also trying to attract more FDI like other transition economies. By the end of 2023, over 200 international firms have shifted their headquarters to Riyadh as the Kingdom had announced previously that foreign firms with their Middle Eastern bases outside of Saudi Arabia would not be able to bid for Saudi Government contracts. This smart move surely would help the Saudi economy to attract more FDI as compared to the other gulf neighboring countries. In this article, we have examined the impact of FDI on the economic growth of thriving Saudi Arabia. We took the annual time series data for the dependent variable and the explanatory variables for the period ranging from 1991 to 2022. To explore the long-run relationship among the variables we used Auto regressive distributed lags (ARDL) Bounds test. The empirical findings revealed the existence of a long-run relationship among the variables of the model, but we found an insignificant impact of FDI on economic growth. These insights offer valuable implications for policymakers aiming to optimize the economic impact of FDI in Saudi Arabia.

The agricultural economy strives to increase productivity to feed the world's growing population. In this regard, agricultural digitalization has been enormously concerned and proffered. Digitalizing agriculture must be incorporated into most developing countries to gain benefits. For this purpose, every developing country needs to define a digitalization strategy. Many governments face a challenge while assessing digitalization options. Without an appropriate assessment technique, selecting the best solution is hardly possible among the many available technologies. This paper aims to conceptualize a new framework for assessing strategies. Antifragility analysis algorithm (AAA), introduced in the present study, is a state-of-the-art future-based scenario method that can maximize decision outcomes. According to the literature, an antifragile system increases its capability to thrive due to shocks, volatility, attacks, etc. In this research, the heuristic involves altering model inputs for future scenarios by considering the most significant environmental factors shaping future uncertainty. An antifragile strategy produces better average results than the current scenario after adjustments. Finally, antifragile strategies are ranked based on their antifragility scores. To explain the technique, we examined seven strategies for digitalizing the small farming sector in northern Iran. Then, we showed the alternatives’ priority based on six key indicators that formed the future scenarios. According to the results, among the digitalization strategies implementable in the small farming sector in Iran, IoT will be the most antifragile strategy considering future scenarios, and following, the sensor strategy will be the next option. While considering the most important elements of decision-making, i.e., complexity and uncertainty, the proposed approach can benefit managers, organizations, policymakers, in making strategic decisions.

Background In recent years, the utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has increased dramatically with the launch of vision 2030 in Saudi Arabia (SA). Vision 2030 is a quality-driven mission set to make SA one of the most efficient countries in healthcare. SA has launched several initiatives for the national digitalization mission. The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) has been established for that purpose, other entities including the National Healthcare Command and Control Center (NHCCC). The most successful and promising application of AI so far is in diagnostic radiology and conceptualizing a personalized health plan. With the current trend in precision medicine, AI will be a valuable asset in producing an individualized healthcare plan. The potential for AI has been amplified throughout the Covid-19 pandemic and has accelerated the agenda for an immediate execution plan. In each phase of the pandemic, AI has been integral to identifying novel strains of the virus, undergoing containment measures, and assisting in the public’s adherence to them. This review explores the potential of AI in healthcare, its drawbacks, and the role of AI in the national health transformation mission launched by SA. Despite the potential of AI in healthcare, it has significant limitations, mainly the lack of institutional resources and inadequate training of healthcare workers. Summary The potential of AI is nearly limitless, but only a fraction of its capabilities have been explored. SA has launched several initiatives to utilize AI in healthcare, including multiple health mobile apps, telemedicine, and electronic medical health records. These initiatives formed a cornerstone in helping SA handle the pandemic more efficiently.

User interface is an essential element of an information system from the user perspective. The use of text in the user interface presents a challenge to some users, such as illiterate, elderly, non-local language speakers, or users with any disabilities. Numerous studies have proposed text-free user interfaces based on non-textual aids such as pictograms, audio, video, or specialized hardware. Such rich elements in the user interface have implications for an information system’s storage and processing requirements. We propose using concept hierarchies to present a dynamic interface to a user based upon user characteristics. A drill-down approach may present more specific interface elements to a user, and a roll-up scheme can identify more generalized interface elements. The proposed scheme can be used to manage internal data of large user interfaces with a rich set of features more effectively as it is computationally inexpensive than sequential processing techniques. We also explore various physical and psychological characteristics of elements and evaluate user preference for them. The results of a survey of 200 respondents show that users consider the use of various colors, alignments, mental models, and look & feel to be essential criteria in interface design. We also conclude that size of interface elements and the use of characters for expressing emotions are significantly important characteristics in interface design. The future work will apply the proposed scheme to a full spectrum of applications ranging from enterprise systems to mobile applications.

Th e article examines one of the main directions of the implementation of a large-scale program of economic reforms in Saudi Arabia (Saudi Vision-2030), aimed at ridding the Kingdom’s economy of an alarming dependence on oil export revenues – the digital transformation of society, governing structures, and the economy as a whole. In the past few years, the information and communication technology (ICT) sector, which has become the largest in the Middle East, is increasingly visible not only in this region. Its development is particularly dynamic due to large investments in the latest technologies. The success of the ICT sector was also facilitated by the creation of new supervisory bodies and the improvement of the regulatory framework for various areas of digitalization. The country’s leadership aims to make Saudi Arabia one of the world’s leading countries in the field of ICT by building a digital economy based on the principles of the Fourth Industrial Revolutionanddigitalgovernanceofsociety. The five-year digital development strategy (2019–2023) provides for the growth of the ICT sector by 50% and an increase in the rate of “Saudization” of this sector to 50% by 2023. This strategy is expected to increase the contribution of the ICT sector to the economy by at least $13.3 billion. Assessing the prospects for the development of digitalization in Saudi Arabia, the author found four factors that make it possible to assess them as very favorable – sufficient funding, acceleration of the privatization process, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the inevitability of the diversification of the national economy, which is impossible without digitalization.

With the aim of achieving a global ranking and academic distinction, a large number of universities have decided to focus on competition and greater academic quality on a global scale. During the course of such a journey, universities have to face numerous challenges, including the enhancement of organizational efficiency. In the context of organizational efficiency, the most significant pillar supporting this drive is recognized as being digital transformation. It is widely accepted that digital transformation allows electronic systems to be used in the process of teaching and learning. These electronic systems (e-services) enhance universities’ operational efficiency. Keeping this in mind, this research paper aims to analyze the impact of digital transformation on the organizational and spending efficiency of universities, with a special focus on one particular e-service provided by the Saudi University. For this, the study examines the effort made by the government to spread the culture of rationalization and improve the efficiency of spending through a case study involving a statistical analysis of real data from an electronic system. The results of the study state that an increase in the number of subject withdrawals will weaken the spending and organizational efficiency of the University.

Purpose This study aims to evaluate the efficiency of the three telecommunications companies in Saudi Arabia: Saudi Telecom Company (STC), Mobily and Zain over the period of 2010–2019. This evaluation is a step toward improving the performance of the Saudi telecommunications sector. Design/methodology/approach Three multicriteria decision-making (MCDM) techniques were used to calculate technical efficiency. These techniques include the traditional data envelopment analysis (DEA), window DEA and analytical hierarchy process (AHP). The three inputs used were total assets, operating expenses and capital expenditures, whereas the two outputs were sales revenue and total stockholders’ equity. Findings STC was ranked first using the three techniques, followed by Zain, and then Mobily. According to the DEA window analysis, these three companies were all efficient only in 2012. The efficiency was high in the initial years, 2010–2013, when it was above 0.90, and it dropped below 0.90 in the subsequent years, 2014–2019. In addition, the efficiency of STC remained high, with an average of 0.990. However, the average efficiencies of Zain and Mobily during this period were 0.807 and 0.804, respectively. Originality/value This is the first study to use the three MCDM techniques to evaluate the performance of telecommunications providers. The results show that window DEA is better than the other two techniques at evaluating performance over time, as it has a higher discrimination power than either the traditional DEA or AHP.
