The mechanical properties of woven natural fiber reinforced polymers additively manufactured through Laminated Object Manufacturing (LOM) technology are investigated in this paper. The benefits of both the material and manufacturing process were combined into a sustainable practice, as a potential alternative to traditional synthetic composite materials made from nonrenewable crude oil with limited end-of-life alternatives. Woven jute fiber reinforcements are used to strengthen both synthetic and bio- thermoplastic polymers in creating highly biodegradable composite structures. Such materials, as one of the prospective alternatives for synthetic composites, can be used in many engineering fields such as automobile panels, construction materials, and commodity and recreational products including sports and musical instruments. A LOM 3D printer prototype was designed and built by the authors. All woven jute/polymer biocomposite test specimens made using the built prototype in this study had their mechanical (both tensile and flexural) properties assessed using ASTM test standards and then compared to similar values measured from pure polymer specimens. Improved mechanical characteristics were identified and analyzed. Finally, SEM imaging was performed to identify the polymer infusion and fiber-matrix bonding conditions.

Recent experiments have shown that improper encoding in MR user interfaces exacerbates the individual cognitive symbol effect, leading to issues of excessive cognitive workload and elevated psychological stress levels in individual cognitive task methods. In light of this, this paper proposes a novel MR user interface information encoding method. By assessing the improvement level of object clues and action clues on information encoding quality, it identifies the optimal encoding forms for combining these two types of cues, thereby establishing a more intuitive and natural communication channel for information. The paper presents several human–machine interface usability test results and compares the proposed encoding forms with the MR interface encoding information currently used in significant factories like AVIC (Aviation Industry Corporation of China) to analyze the advantages and disadvantages of the proposed encoding forms.

During the last two decades, industrial applications of augmented reality (AR) have been incorporated in sectors such as automotive or aeronautics in tasks including manufacturing, maintenance, and assembly. However, AR’s potential has yet to be demonstrated in the railway sector due to its complexity and difficulties in automating tasks. This work aims to present an AR system based on HoloLens 2 to assist the assembly process of insulation panels in the railway sector significantly decreasing the time required to perform the assembly. Along with the technical description of the system, an exhaustive validation process is provided where the assembly using the developed system is compared to the traditional assembly method as used by a company that has facilitated a case study. The results obtained show that the system presented outperforms the traditional solution by 78% in the time spent in the localization subtask, which means a 47% decrease in the global assembly time. Additionally, it decreases the number of errors in 88% of the cases, obtaining a more precise and almost error-free assembly process. Finally, it is also proven that using AR removes the dependence on users’ prior knowledge of the system to facilitate assembly.

Implementation of augmented reality (AR) in the aerospace industry could initiate a new path in terms of technological advancement. AR is widely known as a new immersive world made up of real and virtual features that can generate a humanly intuitive interaction with computer-based systems through gadgets. In this study, the repair manual for Boeing 737 has been improvised by using the software that can create an AR program system, which is Unity and Vuforia SDK. The AR repair manual system is developed in two methods, marker-based and markerless, to see which one has better performance and reliability in the industry. The application is believed to be a great help in realising a more convenient working environment and in situations where it requires less human contact, such as in the Covid-19 situation. The performance of the developed AR repair manuals is evaluated and compared with the existing repair manual. The AR repair manual is believed to have better performance in terms of time, efficiency and working environment than the paper-based manual. The study on the development of the AR repair manual and its implementation in the aerospace industry will be discussed in this paper.

This paper presents MINAR, an Indoor Navigation System with the goal to aid workers to navigate to different locations in their workspace and present them with a specific checklist of tasks that needs to be done at those precise locations. We developed this system using environment based tracking offered by the Vuforia Area Targets and Unity. Once the environment is tracked, a line renderer guides the user from the user's location to the destination. We conducted a small pilot study to determine the perceived usability and workload (physical and mental) afforded for the users by the system. We also discuss the further implications of having Indoor Navigation Systems in the broader context of the Industrial Metaverse.

The objective of this study is to gain a deeper comprehension of the factors that play a role in the evolution of virtual reality (VR) for application in the investigation of aviation disasters. This study was motivated by the concept of utilising VR to create an illusion of the procedures involved in an anviation accident. A conceptual model has been presented, to create the scene that will be simple to understand the procedure of accident following an air crash. The idea is to compile a series of steps that an investigation team will go through and then present them in VR. This stage entails obtaining complete views of the object before it crashes and at ground level. This study contributes to the process of creating the groundwork for adopting VR in air crash investigations to provide instructional experiences. The idea that was presented in this research focuses on feature of the surrounding area of the crash or accident, wreckage distribution, wreckage above the ground, wreckage in motion, wreckage at the ground, spatial view effect, and full view projection as the primary VR features that are required for teaching and learning about air crash accident investigations using VR.
