Historically, public and private sector enterprises have been viewed as existing on opposing ends of the performance measurement spectrum, due to seemingly incompatible worldviews. Private sector enterprises are traditionally viewed as profit-driven and focused on a return on investment paradigm, while public sector enterprises are seen as mission-...

... we assume that COI -"show stoppers" -for the shipping company are 1) maintaining customer satisfaction and 2) maintaining financial solvency. Utilizing what Morash (2000) identifies as the most company's important performance characteristics (which we term as effectiveness measures), we can identify the associated MOE and MOP depicted in Figure 2. Those MOP associated with quantitative MOE, such as MOE 5 , can be evaluated directly. ...

Several scholarly studies have been conducted to establish relationships between SC breakdown and performance of manufacturing enterprises without any serious attention on the relationship between approaches to manage SC breakdown and operational performance of enterprises. Therefore, this paper provides an empirical analysis of the causal relation...
The main problem of the electrical operational systems in Indonesia is how to maintain the continuity of effective and efficient services to the customers and meet the supply and demand for electrical power, particularly a lot of islands area in Indonesia are far distant from the power generation sources. Currently, there are considerable discrepancies between China’s central government and some local governments in attitudes towards coal to liquids (CTL) technology. Energy return on investment (EROI) analysis of CTL could provide new insights that may help solve this dilemma. Unfortunately, there has been little research on this topic; this paper t...
The economic efficiency of building core sunlighting systems (BCSS) that are used to deliver sunlight into building core is essential for their widespread use. This study analyses the costs and benefits of using the BCSS through a parametric evaluation process considering key parameters, such as installed and saved lighting power, electricity costs...

Jatropha curcas is a plant that can be used as a substitute for diesel fuel. Lack of knowledge of farmers and the limited number of experts and extension agents to deal with the disease of the plant will result lower quality of Jatropha curcas. Dempster-Shafer method can be a solution for decision making based on previous research. The difference in beliefs of every expert in seeing Jatropha diseases may reduce the accuracy of the method. A set of numerical experiment prove that optimization of belief values using genetic algorithms can improve the accuracy Dempster-Shafer. © 2018 Institute of Advanced Engineering and Science All rights reserved.
Today’s brutal competition environment has made it a necessity for businesses to evaluate their performance in order to maintain their existence and gain sustainable competitive advantage. The current environment does not allow businesses that do not perform performance evaluations a chance to survive. Therefore, corporate performance evaluation is a multi-criteria, complex and uncertain real-life problem that is vital for businesses. Corporate performance should be measured multi-dimensionally, but performance indicators of these dimensions may not always be expressed with a numerical value or may have uncertainty. In this case, the closest results are obtained by using fuzzy logic. Based on the current importance of the subject, a fuzzy model has been developed for the evaluation of corporate performance in this study. The outputs of the model are total enterprise performance, corporate reputation and financial output. Although the number of inputs used for each output varies, the inputs used in the model are the environment, customers, society, government, competitors, suppliers, business processes and sustainability. The application of the model is demonstrated with a case study using the fuzzy logic toolbox of the MATLAB program. Performance values for “Total Enterprise Performance”, “Corporate Reputation” and “Financial Output” were obtained as 16.9, 16.9 and 20.8, respectively.
Construction industry has complexity in its nature because it contains a large number of participants as clients, consultants, contractors, stakeholders, shareholders, regulators and others. The topic of performance measurement becomes very crucial to construction projects to determine their success. Previous studies show the development of specific indicators for performance is among the most significant mechanisms for the measurement of performance. The main objective of this study is to examine and evaluate the systems for performance measurement adopted in the Iraqi construction projects during the implementation phase. This aim was achieved through structured interviews and a survey that was carried out among the different parties involved in the construction process. A total of 97 participants contributed to this survey representing public and private clients, consultants, and contractors. The analysis of the survey revealed that the most significant factors relating to the types of measurement systems in use are satisfaction of the client, the profitability of the project, viability and feasibility of the project, satisfaction of the project’s users, and quality of the project. The study revealed that all of the 20 indicators suggested in the survey might be utilized to shape the performance framework measurement of Iraqi construction projects at the implementation phase.
This paper studies the impact of demographic factors on the performance of women‐owned micro‐enterprises in North India. Data were collected from 100 women entrepreneurs through self‐structured questionnaire using stratified random sampling technique. Sales turnover and net profit margin are taken as dependent variables. Multivariate regression analysis was applied to study the impact of various demographic factors. The results indicate registration status, legal ownership, nature of business, age, education, family income, size of business and employees positively affect the net profits and sales turnover of the enterprises. However, the numbers of products offered have a negative effect on the sales and net profits margin. The factors identified in this study, which have a positive impact on the net profits and sales turnover, are important in making entrepreneurial decisions that can enhance the performance and may help for economical production.
Performance measurement and the balanced scorecard is becoming ubiquitous. However, this paper will argue that some of the early work on performance measurement and management conducted in the early part of the twentieth century has been overlooked by more recent writers. In particular, prediction in today’s literature is not the same concept as that developed by Dr Walter Shewhart in the 1920s. This paper traces the development of performance measurement from its accounting and operational roots until today and concludes that current use of performance measurement could benefit from earlier developments. In particular, the paper argues that the current obsession with testing success maps has limitations as they view the world as being static – relationships holding for all time. The paper proposes that a more dynamic view is taken to these relationships so managers do not become trapped in an outdated strategy map.
