... There have been growing concerns about the democratic deficit, pluralism, multiculturalism, and an increase in extremism; this is especially worrying if CE received by young people is not improved (Sardoc, 2012;Yoldaş, 2015). CE must entertain people's education to prepare students to think critically and act democratically through awareness activities to become democratic (Fajri et al., 2019;Sundawa & Dahliyana, 2022). The objectives of CE specifically include students having insight and appreciation for the diversity of Indonesian society so that they can communicate well to strengthen national integration (Sanjaya et al., 2021). ...

This study was motivated by diminishing religious moderation literacy among students. This study was conducted qualitatively by using a case study. The results showed that through the window-shopping model, student's religious moderation literacy could be developed. In addition, the window-shopping model could teach students to be independent, collaborative, critical, and creative. This study is recommended to optimize the window-shopping model as a learning model that can develop various student potencies.
... Every learner has an intuitive way to form and express their views in a variety of different ways [8,28] such as obtaining information, planning, questioning, analyzing, interpreting, solving problems, and exploring and reporting new ideas that they naturally create [31][32][33]. Children use this behavior as a basis for evidence to form and support their views, and what they know and understand in making decisions independently [29]. ...
This article aims to explain young researchers' learning activities at age of 13 to15 years old in formulating original ideas as well as self-determined collaboration and exploration associated with environmental learning activities. This study employs qualitative descriptive research approaches to examine the research learning activities of young researchers in finding self-determined original ideas. This study was carried out in Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri (MTsN) Kota Batu, East Java Province, Indonesia. The participants of this study consisted of 22 madrasah students (aged 13-15) who are divided randomly into 12 groups and two research teachers were also involved. The data collection techniques used are observations, interviews, and other documentations. The results of this study indicate that: (1) Students accompanied by teachers are able to think critically about environmental problems in formulating original ideas through teacher's stimulation and habituation to carry out observations both at school and in residence environments that can improve the sensitivity of students in responding to surrounding environmental problems. (2) Students can deliver research ideas to teachers and friends, collaborate, and participate in groups in analyzing, interpreting, designing, implementing as well as reporting activities involved in research projects from the student's point of view. (3) The teacher's habit of stimulating students to obtain original ideas from their surroundings can indirectly lead to an enjoyable research culture for students. The project report is presented as part of this article.
... There is no doubt that civic education alone is not sufficient to convey information about rights and obligations in a democracy and to motivate young people politically (Yoldaş, 2015). Therefore, civic education must entertain people's education to prepare students to think critically and act democratically through awareness activities to become democratic (Fajri et al., 2018). Democratic awareness involves creating an environment both in schools and individual classrooms that reflect "living together." ...
... This statement is in line with the objective of the project citizen model, i.e., to motivate and empower students to exercise democratic civic rights and responsibilities through an intensive portfolio of public policy issues at universities or the communities where they interact (Fajri et al., 2018). This is because, through project citizenship, students are able to find integration of human potentials, integration of institutions, integration of curriculum, integration of learning domains, integration of three centers of education, integration of theory and practice, and integration of learning activities because students are able to understand the relationship between civic education and the field of science that is their expertise (Muchtarom et al., 2016;Nurdin & Dahliyana, 2017). ...
This article sought to describe the contribution of project citizens in civic education as an incubator for democratic education. The subjects of the study were group B kindergarten children, kindergarten leaders, and kindergarten educators in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. Need assessment data collection is done through interviews, list of documents, and questionnaires. The results of this study indicate that the assessors of the validity of gamelan experts and children's learning are met according to criteria 0.9 in the Validity Coefficient Table with an error rate of 5%. Likewise, the reliability between raters with the test-retest method obtained a consistency score according to the criteria in the Reliability Table with an error rate of 5%. The effectiveness of the little gamelan in stimulating Pancasila for early childhood is very significant. This is based on a one-sample t-test that the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis and the rejection of the null hypothesis is that the children's Pancasila achievement during and after playing the gamelan exceeds the Pancasila scores achieved by most of the PAUD teachers involved in this study. The values that are stimulated in playing the little gamelan are praying, knowing God's creation, being grateful, appreciating, polite, appreciating, compact, harmonious, deliberation, leadership, fair, taking turns.

... This study aims to maximize the project citizen model to develop and foster students' pro-social attitudes. This statement is confirmed by Fajri et al. (2018) that the project citizen model can develop students' disposition reflected in the form of responsibility, care, respect for 129 opinions, participation, commitment to learning, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and innovation. Additionally, Medina-Jerez et al. (2010) reinforce that schools worldwide use Project Citizen as a curriculum that promotes the acquisition of academic and life skills, such as citizenship, problem-solving, oral and written communication, and research. ...

... The process of the development of environmental attitude through this model is internalized in every stage of the model. This learning model will significantly help students not only understand the scientific concept and principle but also develop students' collaboration skill, communication, innovation, critical thinking, confidence, social awareness, as well as actively participate in society (Fajri, 2019;Mulyoto, 2017). ...
... In this case, the project citizen learning model is an alternative that can improve these skills. This proposal is in line with Jayadiputra, who explains that the project citizen model can be implemented to improveathe quality of Citizenship Education learning with a process that can improve critical thinking [28], communication, participation and innovation [29], [30] which are part of 21st-century skills. Such notion is line with the experts who state that the project citizen model is a learning model based on issues that occur in the community environment related to public policy [31]. ...
... In general, no research has been done to measure the 21st-centuryaskills ofastudents as a whole with the project citizen model. Instead, previous research has only measured one part of 21st-century skills, including critical thinking skills [28], collaborative skills [29] and the enhancement of digital literacy skills through the project citizen model [32]. Moreover, the research that has been conducted to examine the 21st-century skills of students as a whole through a project-basedalearning model is an innovative approach to success in the 21stcentury [33]; this model also takes a problem-based approach to explore 21st-century skills through online courses [1], [33], [34]. ...
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the project citizen learning model to improve the 21st-century skills of students in Aceh. The hypothesis in this study posits a significant influence of the improvement of the 21st-centuryaskills of student's through project citizen learning on students studying under conventional methods. This research used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experiment pretest-post-test nonequivalent control group design. The sample of this study was 200 high school students in Aceh selected from four schools and eight classes spread across Aceh. The data in this study were collected through a 40-item questionnaire developed from previous studies and were modified to fit into the environment of the current study. The finding shows that thea21st-century skillsaof studentsain the experimental and control classes increased by 0.233 and 0.621 before and after the treatment, respectively. The results also revealed a significant influence on the use of the project citizen-learning model on improving the 21st-century skills of students in Aceh. This influence was indicated byathe valueaof Sig. (2-tailed) of 0,000 <0.05 with a mean score in the experimental class of 4.133 and the control class of 3.642. Thus, the project citizen learning method can improve 21st-century skills of students in Aceh. Teachers who are responsible for other subjects are expectedato bebable to useathe project citizen learning model to improve 21st-century skills with materials that are in line with the steps of project citizen learning.
