At present the most effective method of opioid addiction treatment is methadone substitution therapy. Its efficacy is dependent on patients’ satisfaction. The aim of this study was to explore the patients’ opinion of the effectiveness of methadone treatment. Respondents also evaluated the incidence of methadone side effects and their influence on daily life.
... Opioid substitution therapy (OST) using buprenorphine and methadone has been introduced in some Former Soviet States including Ukraine (Bruce, Dvoryak, Sylla, & Altice, 2007;Dvoriak et al., 2013;Dvoryak & Grishayeva, 2008;Golovanevskaya, Vlasenko, & Saucier, 2012;Lawrinson et al., 2008) and Georgia (Gambashidze, Sikharulidze, Piralishvili, & Gvakharia, 2008;Otiashvili et al., 2010;Piralishvili, Gamkrelidze, Nikolaishvili, & Chavchanidze, 2012) and data are becoming available on its effectiveness in these cultural settings. Findings from the U.S., Western Europe, and Australia have consistently found that OST is associated with substantial reductions in illicit opioid use, criminal activity, and drug related mortality, and that it can play an important role in reducing the spread of HIV by reducing injection risk and improving adherence to antiretroviral therapy (Cornish, Macleod, Strang, Vickerman, & Hickman, 2010;Degenhardt et al., 2010;Gowing, Farrell, Bornemann, Sullivan, & Ali, 2011;Kimber et al., 2010;MacArthur et al., 2012;Malta, Strathdee, Magnanini, & Bastos, 2008;Mattick, Breen, Kimber, & Davoli, 2003;Mattick, Breen, Kimber, & Davoli, 2007;Suntharasamai et al., 2009;Tilson et al., 2007). ...
... The discrepancies between the baseline urine analyses and self-reports might be due to participants not using these substances during the past few days; or that some were using desomorphine ("crocodile") that is not always identified in urine drug tests. Though the availability of free treatment and other cultural factors discussed above likely contributed to the low level of non-opioid substance use during OST, our findings are similar to other reports from Georgia (Gamkrelidze et al., 2004;Piralishvili, Gamkrelidze, Nikolaishvili, & Chavchanidze, 2013, Piralishvili et al., 2012, and to the urine testing database of the Center for Mental Health and Prevention of Addiction in Tbilisi. Contributing factors could be use of doses or drugs (for example, desomorphine) that are below the cutoff points of detection by the rapid test methods; use of non-benzodiazepine sedatives that the rapid tests could not detect ; patients being able to estimate when they were likely to be tested; unrecorded positive urine analyses since physicians sometimes do not record positive results at the insistence of patients and ask for a repeated urine test in a few days (such cases occur in practice at the clinic, but not within this study); or patient reluctance to admit to drug use due to concerns that their report will be disclosed. ...
Phygital Social Marketing is the modern way to design, implement, and control programs to increase effectiveness in Public Health. Since the world economy and customers started the digital migration, public Health has faced physical and digital issues combined into human behavior today. The solution to human problems can come from the degree of digitalization. Frequently, the practical answer to many challenges in public Health is the new economy, which encourages people to have healthy lifestyles. That means physical and digital social marketing approaches will be practical tools for covering the current public health landscape and effectively following the challenges. The research, which involved deep, unstructured interviews with social marketers, was conducted in Poland and Georgia. The results of the deep interviews are represented in the new Matrix Models for Phygital Social Marketing created for Public Health.
