This study discusses the problem of determining which container port should be developed within an existing network and when this should be carried out. A case study of Indonesia’s port network is presented, where several new ports are to be improved to ensure smooth interisland transportation flows of goods. The effects of the investment on econom...

This paper focuses on the analytical probabilistic modeling of vehicular traffic. It formulates a node model. It then formulates a network model by coupling the node model with the link model of Lu and Osorio (2018), which is a stochastic formulation of the traffic-theoretic link transmission model. The proposed network model is scalable and comput...

... Dealing with transportation-related smart campus topics becomes possible due to (1) the advancement of information technology, e.g., online systems with recorded historical data (Handojo et al., 2023;Singgih and Kim, 2020), and (2) the vast development of more efficient optimization techniques and revolutionary machine learning approaches . A representative overview of existing studies for each selected smart campus topic was provided, along with the input data, objectives, and decision variables (output) for each topic that follows a basic representation for a mathematical model (Riaventin et al., 2021;Singgih et al., 2021a;2021b). ...

Industry 4.0-related technologies are implemented in real life to allow a better life for society. Among the application areas, the smart campus is one of them. Various implementation area exists, including online class management, energy usage observation, warning systems, smart vehicles and people flow management. In this study, we list and classify studies on smart campus applications. Different from previous reviews, we consider more studies, more smart campus topics, and a complete list of characteristics for each smart campus application. The studies were searched from the Google Scholar database. After the screening process based on the PRISMA framework, we include 43 studies in this review. We provide an overview for each application topic with details on all functions, related data, and used technologies. Finally, we define transportation problems related to the discussed applications to be further considered by the next researchers who wish to optimize the performance of smart campus systems. ... A container stacking yard consists of several blocks, with a number of rows and bays in each block, and tiers in each row and bay. As stated by [10], the increase in container flows every year is certainly positive. However, when the port is not prepared to handle the increased container flow, it can become a problem. ...

Improving the accessibility of coal transportation is a crucial issue for energy security, national defense, and livelihoods. In this study, a method to evaluate the performance of the port-centric coal transportation chain (PCTC), which is a crucial part of the international coal production and delivery process, is proposed. After analyzing the features of the port-centric coal transportation chain, a practical accessibility evaluation model is established based on the gravity model. Both the foreland and hinterland features are considered in the model. Based on the features of coal transportation, the concept of port operational adaptability is introduced to indicate the port’s ability to manage a fluctuating irregular workload. Moreover, environmental factors, including transportation emissions and dust pollution, are included in the evaluation system. Based on real data collected from China’s north-south coal transportation corridor, a case study presents the implementation of this comprehensive evaluation system in practice. This evaluation system enables us to determine the vulnerable areas in the coal maritime transportation network and provides a decision-making basis for both shippers and port owners.
