This study examined the sustainability of Library Open Source Software (with particular reference to KOHA) in Nigerian academic and research Libraries. Descriptive survey design was adopted with a total number of thirty five (35) libraries which were selected purposefully all over the six (6) geopolitical zones of Nigeria (twenty universities, both privates and publics, ten Polytechnics, and five colleges of education). Structure Questionnaire was used to generate data and this was analyzed using simple frequency and percentage. It was revealed that koha is gaining ground in Nigeria because of its reliability and community involvement. It also revealed that lack of institutional support; inadequate information and negative attitudes of librarians were some of the challenges facing adoption and utilization of koha in Nigeria. The study however made some recommendation.

Print media for communication is reliable as compared to any other media, it can be kept as a record and I could be available at any time anywhere. Commonly it is famous that the "ink and paper" way of communication is known as print media. Pakistan is a developing country in South Asia and Hazara Division is one of its developing regions. The role of print media in the Hazara Division is most important in developing the local culture, values, and language. This research paper has focused on local books, circulars, journals, truck art, memos, billboards, magazines, newspapers, play cards, Oeconomia Copernicana, 12(4) 920 pamphlets, and periodicals. Special focus was given to the outcomes and effects of the local print media on Hazara Division that it inspired the life of the common man and how the message of the sender was passed to the receiver through print media.
Purpose
This paper aims to elaborate the library data migration process from LAMP (Library Automation Management Program) to the open source software Koha's (2.2.8 Windows based) Pakistani flavour PakLAG‐Koha in six legislative assembly libraries of Pakistan.
Design/methodology/approach
The paper explains different steps of the data migration from one ILM (integrated library management system) to a new ILM in six libraries over the course of three months. Qualitative research methods, i.e. direct observation and interviews, were adopted for finding the problems and solutions of the delayed project. Training and support was offered by a local volunteer group (PakLAG). One of the authors of the paper presented first‐hand experience of being a consultant of this project. The study and results are the author's own reflections and first‐hand experiences, and hence results are based on direct observations.
Findings
The paper identifies several critical issues and their solutions concerning data migration within a local scenario as well as how local consultants and support groups are coping with these issues. It was noticed that the data migration can be done quickly if any support group is properly involved with the library staff.
Originality/value
This paper provides first‐hand experience and success story of library data migration from DOS‐based ILM to open source software. Process, tools and findings discussed in this paper are valuable for the libraries planning to convert non‐MARC data to open source MARC‐based software Koha.
