The family Adamystidae is reported from Russia for the first time. Female and male specimens of Adamystis burjaticus sp. n. collected from soil and litter in Buryatia are described. This species is new to science. A female of Adamystis saboorii collected from soil in the Altai Republic is recorded from Russia for the first time.

Adamystis persiangulfensis sp. nov. is described based on female, male, tritonymph, deutonymph and larva stages collected in the littoral zone of mangrove forests in Qeshm Island, in the eastern part of the Persian Gulf, southern Iran. This new species is distinguished by having two pairs of adoral setae; chelicera with one seta; palpal tarsus with 14 setae; idiosoma with one poorly defined (weakly sclerotized) shield; dorsum laterally at least with 19 pairs of lens-like structures and five pairs of aggenital setae (ag1–5). Adamystis ekaterinae Ghasemi-Moghadam & Saboorisp. nov. is described and illustrated based on adult females collected from soil in the Chitgar Forest Park, Iran. This new species is distinguished by having dimpled vacuoles between sci and sce on lateral propodosoma; one pair of eyes associated with postocular bodies; smooth dorsal idiosomal shield; setae h1, h2, ps1 and ps2 on smooth platelets and lacking lens like structures.

A new species, Adamystis saboorii sp. nov. (Trombidiformes: Prostigmata: Adamystidae) is described based on adult females from Maragheh city, East Azerbaijan Province, Iran. The new species can be distinguished from other species by the following features: three pairs of adoral setae; chelicera with two setae; idiosoma with reticulated dorsal shield; lateral lens-like structures absent, three pairs of aggenital setae (ag1–3) on divided coxisternal shield and two setae (ag4–5) on a large reticulated shield. Also, an identification key to known species of Adamystis is updated.

A new family of prostigmatic mites (Acari: Trombidiformes), Chulacaridae n. fam. based on Chulacarus elegans n. g. et n. sp., is described from adult females and immature instars collected from soil and litter in Thailand. The new family is monobasic and is placed in the hyporder Anystae (sensu Zhang et al. 2011), and tentatively grouped with other families in the superfamily Anystoidea. In addition to the typical features of Anystina, Chulacaridae n. fam. is characterized by the presence of enlarged, raptorial legs I uniquely with bipectinate setae on their anterior face, the presence of thick and blunt adoral setae (or1 and or2), the fusion of the palpal femur and genu, the absence of any femoral subdivision of legs I-IV, the presence of 8-10 pairs of small genital papillae, and the presence of unipectinate claws (without empodium) on pretarsi I and normal claws (with claw-like empodium) on pretarsi II-IV. Some morphological characters and its systematic position are discussed.

A checklist of the Acari type specimens deposited in the Jalal Afshar Zoological Museum (JAZM), Department of Plant Protection, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Tehran, Karaj, Iran is given. From a total of 451 type specimens (which comprises 166 valid species names) cited in the list, 164 are available and two are lost. Based on the comparison of these type specimens, the following taxonomic change is proposed in this paper: Erythraeus (Zaracarus) ueckermanni is considered as a valid species and is not a junior synonym of Erythraeus (Zaracarus) budapestensis.

Background and Objectives Quercus spp. is the most important and most abundant tree species in west of Iran, especially the Zagros region. The Zagros Mountains have been the original habitat for various Quercus species in Iran. Important pests attack Quercus spp. trees and often cause serious damage. Mites are active arthropod species in oak forests and act as pest, decomposer and predator. Mateials and Methods The bisotun natural preserved area in Kermanshah province is located in height of 1320 meters above sea level. To investigate the fauna of Prostigmatic mites associated with Quercus spp. in bisotun natural preserved area, samples were taken from different parts of location in 2018 -2019 from the soil and aerial parts of the Quercus spp. forest trees. Specimens were transferred to the laboratory, separated using berlese funnel, clarified in lactic acid and mounted in Hoyer’s liquid. Results In this study in total 12 species and 16 genera belonging to 12 families were identified. The most abundant species was Molothrognathus mehrnejadi (Liang and Zhang, 1997), from Caligonellidae. Identified species are as follows: Anystidae: Anystis baccarum Linnaeus, 1758; Bdellidae: Cyta coerulipes (Duges, 1834); Cunaxidae: Pulaeus glebulentus Den Heyer, 1980; Tydeidae: Lorryia woolleyi (Baker, 1968), Tydeus caudatus (Duges, 1834) sensu Baker, 1970; Ereynetidae: Ereynetoides amplectorus Hunter, 1964; Iolinidae: Pronematus ubiquitus (McGregor, 1932), Pronematus rykei Meyer & Rodrigues, 1966; Erythraeidae: Parerythraeus sp., Abrolophus sp.; Smarididae: Smaris sp., Fessonia sp.; Raphignathidae: Raphignathus sp.; Tetranychidae: Tetranychus urticae Koch, 1836; Tetranychus turkestani (Ugarov and Nikolski), 1937, Eotetranychus frosti (McGregor, 1952); Trombididae: Allothrombium sp.; Cheyletidae: Acaropsellina sollers Kuzin, 1940. Discussion In this study, the collected species Anystis baccarum Linnaeus, 1758, was previously reported by Yazdanpanah and Ostovan (2014) in the oak forests of the Fars Province. The collected species Cyta coerulipes, Smaris sp. and Fessonia sp. were previously reported by Farahmandi (2015) from the oak forests of Yasuj. In addition, Tetranychus urticae, collected in this study, was previously reported by Niyazi (2017) on oak trees in Ilam province and Amini et al. (2016) from oak in Marivan city. In this study nine species and four genera were collected and reported, which have not been reported previously from oak which include: Pulaeus glebulentus Den Heyer, 1980, Lorryia woolleyi (Baker, 1968), Tydeus caudatus (Duges, 1834), Ereynetoides amplectorus Hunter, 1964, Pronematus ubiquitus (McGregor, 1932, Pronematus rykei Meyer & Rodrigues, 1966, Tetranychus turkestani (Ugarov and Nikolski), 1937, Eotetranychus frosti (McGregor, 1952), Acaropsellina sollers Kuzin, 194, Parerythraeus sp, Abrolophus sp, Raphignatus sp. and Allothrombium sp. A list of type depositories of new mite species published in two journals (Systematic & Applied Acarology and Zootaxa) during the last five years (2012–2016) is presented in this paper. The 1370 new species are deposited unevenly among 134 collections. The top collection is the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, St. Petersburg, Russia (145 species), which alone accounts for 10% of the total new species, and the top ten collections accounted for 48% of the total. The average number of new species per collection is 10 and over three quarters of the collections are below the average. Just over half (51%) of the collections are in Europe. However, overall there were still more new species deposited in collections in developing counties (741) than developed countries (629). The top country for type depositories of new mite species for each continent is: Russia (199 species) for Europe, Brazil (134 species) for South America, Iran (133 species) for Asia, Australia (87 species) for Oceania, USA (80 species) for North America and South Africa (36 species) for Africa. The top European collections hold type specimens mostly of foreign origin, whereas those of South America, Asia, Africa and Australasia hold type specimens mostly originating from their own countries.

The type localities of new mite species described in two journals (Systematic & Applied Acarology and Zootaxa) during the last six years (2007–2012) were surveyed to detect hotspots of new mite species discovery. Among the 642 papers examined, 71% of them contain new species, with 148 new species in 2007, 207 in 2008, 234 in 2009, 208 in 2010, 333 in 2011 and 249 in 2012. Systematic & Applied Acarology published about 3% of the total new species indexed by Zoological Record during 2007–2012, whereas Zootaxa published about 35% of the total. The 1379 new species are distributed unevenly among 150 mite families; the top 15 families accounted for 55% of all the species, and 86 of the 150 families have 1–3 species each. The top family is the Eriophyidae, which alone accounted for nearly 15% of the total new species. Geographically, the new species were described from 92 countries and their distribution among these countries is highly uneven. The top 10 countries accounted for 62% of all the new species and the top country, China, alone accounted for 18% of the total. The average number of new species per country is 15 and no more than a fifth of the countries are above the average, and 40% of the countries have only 1–3 new species each. The top country for each continent is China (248 species) for Asia, Australia (166 species) for Oceania, Brazil (76 species) for South America, Kenya (51 species) for Africa, USA (51 species) for North America and Russia (42 species) for Europe. Increased efforts in discovering and describing new species are much needed for biodiversity-rich countries in South America, Southeast Asia and Africa.
