Red List of True Hoppers (Auchenorrhyncha) of Carinthia. This second edition of the Red List of the leafhoppers and planthoppers of Carinthia deals with 403 species from 16 families currently recorded from Carinthia. However, the true hopper fauna of this federal state is still not fully known. 10 species are alien to Carinthia (NE). 184 species (45.7 %) are classified as “least concern” (LC), 63 species (15.6 %) are “near threatened” (NT). For 56 species (13.9 %), we lack sufficient data (DD). 88 species (21.8 %) are endangered to varying degrees: 61 species (15.1 %) are “vulnerable” (VU), 21 (5.2 %) “endangered” (EN) and 6 (1.5 %) “critically endangered” (CR). 2 species are “regionally extinct” (RE). Floodplain, fen and wetland species are threatened mainly because of river regulation, hydropower utilisation and large-scale drainage projects. The intensification of landuse of extensive pastures and meadows threatens more than a quarter of all native species. Homogenisation of the landscape, the use of pesticides, the afforestation of dry meadows and currently the development of photovoltaic power plants on extensive grassland sites also contribute to the loss of species. Forest species are threatened by monocultures and afforestation with alien tree species. Climate change already has a notable negative impact on species of peat bogs and alpine areas.
