ResearchGATE supports urgent research on ALS

In co-operation with Prize4Life, ResearchGATE tackles ALS.

A rapidly progressing and fatal neurodegenerative disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease), is still neglected by mainstream pharmaceutical research. To raise awareness and help accelerate the development of treatments, ResearchGATE has decided to partner with the non-profit organization Prize4Life by providing a platform for a continuous conference on ALS. The mission of Prize4Life, founded by Harvard Business School alumnus Avichai Kremer, an ALS patient, is to accelerate the discovery of both a treatment and cure for ALS by using powerful incentives to attract new people and new ideas and to leverage existing efforts and expertise in the ALS field.

Prize4Life is planning to award a $1 million dollar prize to the first individual or team that identifies a clinically relevant biomarker that can track disease progression, which will significantly lower the cost of ALS clinical trials. The deadline for submissions for this prize challenge is November 6, 2008. For more information, visit http://www.prize4life.org.
