this depends on what you need to do. If the pH must remain constant would opt for a buffer solution, for example citric acid or other ... if it is not, as suggested by the colleague would use the HCl...

A change in an animal's behaviour is almost always a factor which may limit the success of an animal's survival when reintroduced, so I don't see how this is relevant. Many behaviours are innate, and stay with the animal in captivity, they are not 'forgotten' because they are essentially part of the animals genetic make-up and if this is not that case then steps are taken to insure that the animals natural behaviour is preserved. Many species have undergone a severe bottleneck and come out the otherside with strong population sizes. The Red Kite in Wales for instance, at one point all of the surviving kites were descended from just one female. This suggests a very severe bottleneck which was likely to be overcome, but here we are with many hundreds of red kites in wales.

If you have a high-dimensional problem it is known that the Bayesian approach has some quality problems. Whereas for finite and low-dimensional problems the Bernstein-von Mises theorem asserts the convergence of the Bayes approach (i.e. the more data the better you learn), David A. Freedman showed in 1965 that for a random variable in an infinite probability space the Bernstein-von Mises theorem does not hold true almost surely. In 1986 Persi Diaconis and David A. Freedman observed "Unfortunately, in high-dimensional problems, arbitrary details of the prior can really matter; indeed, the prior can swamp the data, no matter how much data you have. That is what our examples suggest, and that is why we advise against the mechanical use of Bayesian nonparametric techniques". Derek. Your explanation is very much inline with my previous arguments, in the sense that propagation is purely wave phenomena, while detection, by virtue of the detectors is not. So, I do agree that unqualified usage of the term photon leads to misconceptions, and the current question, is rather simple, but indicative case. To be honest, It was just one single case in my entire carrier, when I have heard about an "operative" method of measuring a "Photon" with no digitizing (no "click"). The proposal was made by Prof. Bykov from Moscow University (I think) in a private communication, so I am not aware of any published conversation on this issue. His Idea goes as follows: Suppose we have a complicated form laser resonator, that can support several transverse modes of same longitudinal frequency. Now, suppose we pump this laser, in such a way that only one transverse mode is excited, so we find no light in other transverse modes. Now we can seed one of the other modes with our "single" photon. As long as it "stays" in the cavity, it will serve as a coupling between two transverse modes, and as we know from mechanics, two coupled oscillators, even with very week coupling will exchange energy. The total amount of energy transferred to the seeded mode indicates the "temporal extant" of the photon. I might have missed some of the details of the proposal, as it was really long time ago, but that is the general idea.

the answer is no, since ethyl acetate is immiscible with water. So, you can't dilute it with water. You can just clean it from other solvents or pollutants through distillation. I suggest to use methanol as a solvent for extraction instead of ethyl acetate since ethyl acetate doesn't dissolve some polar phenolic compounds.

My answer is yes I agree that biological/medical journals have higher IFs than physical/engineering journals, and that if these are IFs are indiscriminately used then it does indeed result in bias. So the standard solution to this problem is never to quote IFs directly. Rather, rank the journals in a field according to IF and refer to a journal as being ranked Nth out of a total of M journal in the XYZ field. That is how to remove the bias. Another metric worth considering is Eigenfactor (EF) rather than Impact Factor (IF), and in this case again you need to remove bias by ranking according to EF within a discipline. You can easily do all these rankings on ISI Web of Knowledge. All the online tools are there to do it at the click of a button very easily. You can even rank all ~8000 journals in the world and that is quite interesting. Nature is top no matter if you use EF or IF. If you rank by EF you get some interesting surprises, like Applied Physics Letters is 5th in the world, and PLoSONE is 12th in the world. I quite like Eigenfactor as it gives weighting to how often journals are cited outside their own discipline, and it also removes journal self-citations. Journals that support multidisciplinary research naturally come out pretty high on the EF scale.

In my opinion and normal practice in may Center of Excellence, at least every objective student should have papers to make sure all the experimental satisfied by others especially journal
