A few comments: That boys and girls are innately the same and that any difference is the result of social conditioning as opposed to biological factors is an opinion, not a fact. I suspect the greatest consensus among relevant specialists is that, like most issues, the explanation for the differences we see are the result of some admixture of nature and nurture. Beauty is generally a sign of health and there is no reason that an intereset in beauty ipso facto excludes an interest in a person's personality, intelligence or character. If commercial and other interests have distorted perceptions of beauty, they should be examined. There is no need to decry beauty per se and thus throw the baby out with the bathwater. That models and the media create unrealistic ideals of thinness that cause widespread eating disorders such as anorexia is an opinion. The last study I read was that the impact was overrated.
