    I am playing with the QT Library for modeling dynamic plugins. My question is the following. Do the Q_DECLARE_INTERFACE and the Q_INTERFACES macro work with any C++ template class? I am not sure about this. Thanks in advance for your help.

    Probably, I solve this problem. It is possible to create any smart class for each plugin of interest. This smart class does not exploit any template. Thus, it can be exploited by the QT Library. Basically, it creates template classes of interest wrt to the FMP pattern thank to template factories. Clearly, it is necessary to register objects to be allocated. This method works very well. It will be released in new version of my Mangrove TDS Library: http://mangrovetds.sourceforge.net within 2015.

    I am starting my research about microalgae. the first step is to choose a suitable species. Spirulina is widely used for food and supplement production. On the other hand for biofuel production there are better candidates like chlorella. I reaaly like to do research on a species which have both biofuel and food (or cosmetic-pharmaceutical) production applications. I need your suggestion to choose the best microalgae which has been proven to have these applications.

    Thank you for your answers,  since I am creating a vector with 4 genes (separated by 2A seq), I inserted gene #3 using MluI at both ends, and plus I created a Asc1 site in 3'.

    The 4th gene will be inserted by ligating Asc1 at both ends.

    Both constructs will be generated by ligating:

    1. oligo (Mlui-Afe1) (from overlapping N)...http://gcat.davidson.edu/igem10/

    2. a PCR product (afe1-Mlui), b/c 2-inserts ligation maybe difficutl, I am ligating the oligo and PCR first, and then cut with MluI and ligate into my vector.

    Hope this works, if not I will try Infusion. My inserts size is about 2K kb.

    -lastly, to join  oligo and PCR by chimeric PCR approach, I am not sure it worked, I sent the product for sequencing, if you do not know this approach or are interested those are the references=

  • How do you deal with/ prevent pneumoperitoneum during TEP hernioplasty?

    We found this to be very annoying probelm during TEP hernioplasty. Even no tear is seen in the peritoneum at the end of the procedure pneumoperitoneum is present. We've tried changing troacar positions, lowering the pressure of insuflator- no significant effect. Finally we found solition for this situation by placing a Veress needle lateral to the 10mm port for the camera. What is your experience with this problem?

    Balloon dissection is  useless and expensive in my opinion.  It merely helps for the easiest  part of the dissection :  the central part. It  does not help for the more difficult lateral dissection.  On top of that , using the balloon  can help you to dissect in a plane

    I have Ni-CdSe and CdSe Nanowires grown via electrodeposition in AAO templates with Ag film on the back, after dissolving the templates I'm left with the wires stuck to the Ag film. 

    I have tried sonication (with times suggested in literature and much longer), didn't work well. Does anyone know what is the optimum time for doing so?
    Also etching away Silver with Nitric Acid before dissolving the template didn't work (CdSe was etched too).

    Then the dimensions shouldn't be the problem. A solution I could think of is to make the Ag layer thinner (100-200 nm should be enough for the electrodeposition) so that it will break apart during ultrasonication and release the NWs. I hope this will help...

    FYI - this is exactly what we did in a project involving soil interaction for a large scale scientific structure.

    As you are interested in this topic, a tweak we used was that Wolf's method specifies a matrix inversion of the interface coupling matrix, i.e. to dig a hole in the substructure (which usually is an analytical wave propagation model).

    Now, our coupling matrix was so large that inversion of this matrix was a feat in itself. Not at all practical even on a supercomputer.

    We circumvented this by the use of an old Nastran trick that is used to 'turn off' elements, e.g. in shape optimization. We used a homogeneous layer of elements with negative Young's modulus for the part of the analytical 'substructure' that should be 'dug out' from the analytical substructure and inserted in there a second substructure model, i.e. the large scale structure of interest.

    There is a freeware code called Code Aster (CA). CA supports anechoic boundary conditions by the use of a 'rubber band mesh'. I imagine that this mesh does provide some reflection. In any case, on top of this, there is an interface developed to an analytical code called MISS3D.     There is no "solution" ...  you mean "an analytic expression for"?

    I don't recognize it as anything in particular but people have studied an awful lot of functions over the years, and somebody may have seen it. Note that you may as well set u=1 and ask about that! If nobody recognizes that sum, there's no chance of the two-parameter version being recognized.

    One usually wants to know where the sum came from. The context is usually helpful in obtaining alternative expressions.

    Thanks to all of you for your valuable contribution .Overall the world is producing surplus food right now, no doubt about it . The population of the world in 2010 was about 700 Crore and if the same growth rate is maintained the population of the world will be doubled by the end of this century.so, if we produce in the same rate as we are doing today definitely we are going to face a serious problem of 'food shortage' in the coming days. More over injudicious application  of chemical inputs ( Chemical fertilizer etc.) in agriculture to maintain a balance with the ever growing population polluting our environment so seriously that our existence in the land of living is in front of a big question mark. So, the serious question right now is , what strategies should be adopted to maintain a balance between food production and the ever growing population of the world ,keeping our environment safe to confirm our existence in the land of living .I am interested in different alternative farming approaches/ strategies that can be adopted.Shepherd mentioned about Integrated Farming Practice as an option. I want more discussion in this matter.

    To do research on speech act theory one should start by undestanding the original theory: Austin (how to do things with words) and Searle (Speech acts).  From then on, there are too many references, particularly in English. I`d suggest your friend to narrow his question to a particular kind of speech act.

    As a practising surgeon I find the question is not so easy to answer.  Surgeons cut and sew. Wound oedema comes from wound reaction which is basically an acute inflammatory reaction.  in the 1st 24-48 hours there is movement of fluid,  lymphocytes and macrophages  from the blood into the injured tissues. A cascade of biochemical events occurs  involving the local vascular system and immune system,ultimately involving proliferation of collagen 3 which in time converts to collagen 1. 

    From a clinical viewpoint oedematous tissue is firm and non-elastic. I am certain that such tissue would be initially ischemic, as Michael says.  From a biomechanical modelling perspective the ultimate mechanisms which Michael details may not be so relevant.  Actually modelling becomes quite complex. Oedema of what? Which operation? Which organ? Which data to use?In our mathematical model of micturition which I think is a simpler project, we had to use cadaveric data for the different structures, collagen, smooth muscle etc which clearly are not the same as live tissue.

    When we talk about depression and Prefrontal cortex (PFC), which area of PFC is more affected? Is it the Ventromedial-PFC or the Dorsolateral-PFC?

    We all know that PFC is affected due to Major Depression. But i want to know which region of PFC is majorly affected?  Is it the VMPFC or the DLPFC? Because, most of the literature has focused up on DLPFC? Is that more correlated to depression than VMPFC?

    Dear Hemanth, the impact on the various regions mentioned above is also determined by the type and severity of depression (as well as co morbid disorders, such as anxiety/Cardiovascular disease etc),. i wrote a comprehensive review on treatment resistant MDD. I have provided a small excerpt below which I hope will be of help in shedding further light

    "Morphological pathology.

    Current evidence, in conjunction with post mortem evidence indicates thatwhite matter lesions and reductions in grey matter are present in patients with Depression. White matter lesions can be a normal aspect of the aging process (Peters, 2006), or related to pathophysiological processes, such as diabetes or cerebrovascular disease risk factors (Schmidt et al., 1992).  The relationship between Depression and white matter lesions is not well known, however de Groot et al. (2000) established that the degree of severity of subcortical white matter lesions  was related to late onset Depression and depressive symptoms in non- demented elderly people (n=1077).  The presence of severe subcortical white matter lesions in elderly people may be a risk factor for Depression. The evidence of grey matter reductions in the hippocampal region in Depressed patients has been previously noted (Rajkowska, 2000).  Bremner et al. (2000) conducted a study on MDD patients  in remission, (n=16) versus matched nondepressed controls (n=16). The MDD group presented with a 19% smaller left hippocampal volume than the controls, which was significant.  The amygdala, caudate, frontal lobe, and temporal lobe regions were similar in volume between the MDD group and the controls (Bremner et al., 2000). In TRD patients, (n=20) versus healthy controls, (n=20) Shah et al. (2002) found attenuated grey matter density in the left temporal cortex, inclusive of the left hippocampal region, as well as signs of attenuation in the right hippocampus. The possible role of subcortical white matter lesions and the reduction in volume of the hippocampus and left temporal cortex needs to be investigated. It is proposed that the severity of attenuation may not be fully reversible and this could contribute to the development of TRD.

    Brain structure and connectivity pathology.

    Dysfunction within the limbic-cortical network is associated with Depression.  Attenutation occurs in the dorsal neocortical regions, whilst increased activity occurs in ventral limbic and paralimbic regions. The Dorsal medial frontal (Mf9), Rostral anterior cingulate (rcG24) and the medial orbital frontal cortex (Of11) have been identified as critical regions for the integration and communication between systems involved in self- referential processes, (Drevets, Price & Furey, 2008; Mayberg, 1997, 2003; Pizzagalli, 2011) and play a key role in Depression. Pathology in the  Medial Prefrontal Cortex (MPFC) in conjunction with areas such as the DLPFC, the Anterior Cingulate cortex (ACC) which is inclusive of regions such as the rostral, dorsal, and posterior cingulate cortex) , the anterior temporal, entorhinal and parahippocampal cortices have been identified (Drevets et al, 2008). The subcallosal cingulate gyrus (SBCG), inclusive of Brodmann area 25 and parts of 24 and 32 and in particular the rostral anterior cingulate(RACC) have been an increasing focus of attention in imaging studies due to their dysfunctionality in Depression and TRD (Hamani et al, 2011; Lozano et al, 2012; Pizzagalli, 2011). “The rostral cingulate cortex is thought to mediate between the dorsal (dorsolateral pre-frontal cortex, dorsal anterior cingulate cortex, inferior parietal cortex, and striatum) and ventral (paralimbic cortex, subcortical hypothalamus, insula, subgenual cingulate cortex, and brainstem) areas of limbic-cortical dysregulation in depression” (Hauptman et al., 2008, p. E3). The importance of the RACC, (rcG24, 24a) as well as the SBCG in Depression and TRD requires further investigation, as these regions may provide biomarkers for those at risk of developing TRD. (Hauptman et al., 2008; Lozano et al., 2008; Mayberg, 2003;Pizzagalli, 2011 ).

    Higher levels of activity  in the HPA Axis are known to be a feature of depressive disorders, (Gotlib et al., 2008).with the 5-HTTPLR being associated with amygdala activation (Aleman, Swart & van Rijn, 2008; Munafo, Brown  & Hariri, 2008).  Johnstone et al. (2007) in an fMRI study discovered that dysfunctional recruitment of the right prefrontal cortex (RPFC) and the attenuated recruitment of left lateral-ventromedial prefrontal regions (LLVMPFC), (which control amygdala activity) occurred in patients with MDD.  Rotenberg (2008) reviewed findings in relation to brain lateralization of function in Depression, and found that activity was attenuated in the left hemisphere, with dysfunctional processing occurring in the right.  These findings are consistent with the general finding that top down regulation of the HPA Axis is dysfunctional in Depression (Rotenberg, 2008). The relationships between anatomical areas and metabolic processes in Depression may occur on a continuum of severity, with TRD being most severe pathophysiologically.

    From my point of view, your question depends if in your location you have access to a low cost energy form (coal for example), if the answer is yes, you could use technologies that use high temperature or pressure like steam explosion or LHW. if it is not, acid or alkaline methods are the best from the economical point of view.

    According to my theory quantum theory and relativity become one theory, and they related to each others. The concept of quantization or discreteness occurs from the relativistic effect and also the relativistic effect occurs also depending  on the difference of the vacuum or the potential. and that is impossible to be understood without the modification of the equivalence principle, and that required to review the relativistic Newton's second law.You are completely right  in your idea of the relativistic Newton's second law, and that interpreted the most problems regarded to quantization of gravity, Especially GR is not completely relativistic. Because of that the equivalence principle of Einstein can't interpret the Bond-Rebka experiment and the red and blue shift of gravity, and as I told in my paper Proponents of the theory of General Relativity offer three different conflicting explanations of the results of the The Pound-Rebka experiment that are said to be equivalent to each other and therefore all equally correct. All make the claim that the results of the Pound-Rebka Experiment are “proof” of the Equivalence Principle even though nothing in these measurements suggests any need for the Equivalence Principle. Franson in his paper [32] J D Franson 2014 New J. However, this leads to a violation of Einstein's equivalence principle – that gravity and acceleration are indistinguishable – because, in a gravitational field, the gravitational potential is created along with mass, whereas in a frame of reference accelerating in free fall, it is not. Therefore, one could distinguish gravity from acceleration by whether a photon slows down or not when it undergoes particle–antiparticle creation.
