I have an interest in Poster Presentation and have published various articles on the topic. I feel though that given the popularity of the medium, it needs a thorough investigation. Any such work however, would invariably start with something like: 'Posters are a hugely popular medium of academic / scientific presentation, with somewhere in the region of X number of posters being presented at conferences and events worldwide each year'. Any bright ideas on how I could get a 'guestimate' of X ?

I design and teach after-school programming for K-6 children. I find that incorporating many aspects of play and choice-based arts education pedagogy works well. During the school day other systemic demands diminish these important opportunities. I also find that instead of introducing concepts, formally upfront, that it can work to move into the art and design work and then 'discover' 'uncover' concepts, vocabulary, etc through the artmaking.

Personally I think most digital aids will stultify the artist's actual creativity; I wouldn't introduce any of them to students in high school (or primary). Call me hopelessly hidebound or whatever. A young person is overflowing with ideas and desires to explore the world. Whether in writing or visual art there is, in every computer program, a rigidity that is absent in the human mind. Because of its nature, any computer program will, sooner or later, prevent a person from doing certain things because it has been written to disallow them - whether because they are considered incorrect or will cause a glitch. Let students explore the depth and breadth of their creative abilities first.

Well - I hope you have a copy of the book mentioned "Hel Ved" by Lars Mytting. It kind of says a lot about our culture when it comes to firewood. It is the first of it's kind in Norway, so I guess you won't find more research about the topic than what's mentioned in the book. But In general the tradition and the relationship people have in Norway is quite similar the relationships in Sweden and in Finland, as mentioned in the program you linked to. If So to broaden your sources I would see what sources I could get from all those countries. I would contact the author Lars on his email lars@larsmytting.net - I think he's the guy you want to get in touch with.

Marx was interested in human creativity and how human beings could apply their creativity in everything they do. This meant reducing the amount of effort spent on menial and boring tasks: these would be mechanised and automated, giving people the freedom to engage in more pleasurable activities. Wether some of these would be called "art" in a society based on the "free association of individuals" (Marx) is an open question, but more interesting in my opinion are the opportunities opened up when all people have the time to realise their aesthetic potential in free association with others. (Which includes working alone, too, of course.)
