It seems to me the main frame perspectives have a tendency to pathologize behaviours which have only been understood from societal/researcher measures of health.

  Measuring resilience in young children (ages 6 - 11)

  I am interested in a protocol to use in measuring resilience in elementary school children. I am aware of the Children and Youth Resilience Measure 28, but the minimum age is 12. A colleague and I (elementary school counselor and school social worker respectively) want to work on a project/program for building resilience in younger children as a way to offset the impact of perceived bullying. Any suggestions for a measure or any other good info that you know of out there?

  What is the role of the arts in developing resilience?

  The reason I ask this question is that there is some evidence the arts have a role to play in developing Emotional Intelligence / Emotional Literacy. This, I think, links also to Peter Fonagy'sThe reason I ask this question is that there is some evidence the arts have a role to play in developing Emotional Intelligence / Emotional Literacy. This, I think, links also to Peter Fonagy's concept of Reflective Function, which in turn links to secure attachment - which in turn links to resilience. My own experience of engaging with the arts is that they offer a different view on this world. What do others think, and crucially do you know of any research in this area?

    An interesting question! One problem I see with any answer is that unless you have pre-disaster measures for an indiviudal, post-disaster measures are only half the picture. If you are stuck withAn interesting question! One problem I see with any answer is that unless you have pre-disaster measures for an indiviudal, post-disaster measures are only half the picture. If you are stuck with that situation though, then assess 36-72 hours after, six weeks after and 12 months after, depending on the nature of the disaster and the impact on the community. This is premsied on the question relating to natural disasters or man-made disasters as determined by the appropriate authority, not an event impacting upon an indiviudal or very small cohort only.

  Hello, I am a mature student undertaking my PhD in organizational psychology. My research is longitudinal with a time-lag of 10-12months. Time 1 had 1598 participants and Time 2 296 participants.Hello, I am a mature student undertaking my PhD in organizational psychology. My research is longitudinal with a time-lag of 10-12months. Time 1 had 1598 participants and Time 2 296 participants. My model comprises of work-family conflict, family-work conflict, work-enrichment and family-work enrichment as predictors. And I have job and family satisfaction, anxiety/depression, social dysfunction and work-life balance as well-being outcomes. I have resilience as a mediator. At Time 1 through structural equation modeling I found that resilience mediated 35 routes out of a possible 60 were significant. However at Time 2 (10-12months later) I found 8 mediation routes out of possible 60 were significant. And nothing was significant longitudinal significant Why do think this was the case. Why 10-12months later such a drastic change. I have some ideas but wanted to find other peoples ideas etc. Any comments would be appreciated Thank you Derek

Antonio this is my PhD thesis The areas i have looked at. to look at possible answers are : I re-analysed the data and identified the 296 participants atHi Antonio Many thanks for your reply. Antonio this is my PhD thesis The areas i have looked at. to look at possible answers are : I re-analysed the data and identified the 296 participants at Time 1. The results of the analyses show similar pattern of mediation effects to that of the 1596 participants at Time 1. I also looked at the change in demographics between time 1 and time 2 sample male/female, age range and changes in household dependents. Nothing stands out. One of the arguments i make is for is that it could be due to a change in social support factors, as prior research as supported the importance of this with resilience At the moment I gathering evidence to make some statement regarding that resilience appears to more state-like and changeable over time rather trait-like and stable. The independent t test showed a significant reduction between Means of resilience at Time 2 from Time 1. The longitudinal correlation between time 1 and time 2 was r = .50 I have searched journal articles that talk about longitudinal traits of the Big Five and they correlate at about r =.7 to r = .80 but make no reference about the strength of correlation in relationship to trait characteristics The measure i used was Neill and Dias measure adapted from Wagnild and Young's measure which has been extensively used in the resilience literature. The CFA at Time1 and Time 2 and Cronbach alpha's met the recommended guidelines for the resilience measure. Thank you, any guidance would be appreciated. Derek
