The role of robots in rehabilitation at the moment is mainly the same, irrespective of the disease. It offers a way to train in a highly precise and repetitive way and is able to give the patient assistance only as needed. It can be used to retrain pathologic trajectories and is thought to activate central pattern generators that facilitate relearning of specific movements. Advantage of robots over manual (therapist) training is precision, endurance and the possible use of virtual reality.
