After plants are well established decrease to half pound urea/sulphjate of ammonia every month until plants reach two years old. 8. Plants are well established and therefore you can stop fertiliser of urea/sulphate. 9. Start to fertilise with muriate of potash for flowering to be initiated; use 1 pound per plant every 6 to 8 weeks until plants reach 3 years old

  Anthesis silking interval is the characteristic used in maize for selection of drought tolerant genotypes.

    ASI is considered as DT trait. But considering certain genotype as DT merely on ASI basis may be misleading. Certainly it should be supported by so many traits. CT may be governed by evapo-transpiration rate and stomata functioning, both are imp traits for DT. Lower CT will help plant to maintain silk receptivity for longer period as well as it may also help to enhance anthesis period (starting to end) . When a certain genotype maintains its normal CT at high air temp/drought we can assume that roots, stomata etc are functioning well. @Mehraj: There may not be any correlation in CT and GDD.

    I agree with all the suggestions, however RAPDs would not be the markers of choice esp if you want to publish the work. To decide on the marker system to use, the first questions is whether theI agree with all the suggestions, however RAPDs would not be the markers of choice esp if you want to publish the work. To decide on the marker system to use, the first questions is whether the mutants show any link to a trait? Are there sequence profiles for the trait? If the answer is yes, then you can go ahead and get EST SSR developed which you then use in the analysis. This is a longer route. Alternatively you may use SSR developed for millet and scan for consistent polymorphism between the mutants and the wild? Where no sequence information ia available, better use AFLPs which is more reliable than RAPDs. With florescence dye resolution and automatic scoring like in GeneMapper, it is quite fast and you work an as many samples as you want. Hope this helps.
