    Many Nano-Mechanical devices can be hidden in a natural landscape without affecting their function. Because they exist on a scale that is invisible to the human eye, they can be ubiquitous without being obvious. One problem I see, is do you let them sit, when they fail, or do you have some way of recovering them, and re-utilizing them for raw materials for more nano-technology. If you leave them in place, you have to design them to either become biodegradable over time, or you have to accept that they will pollute the environment in some way. One of the "Singularity" events described in science fiction, is the evolution of non-functional but still powered nanodevices into wild technology, and a possible danger to human health.
