Well my personal point of view is that first we need to know what we mean by “all species”. It is perfectly clear that we are too far from having the catalog of all extant species. Moreover there are many species going extinct while we are discussing. In sequencing matters we have to be clear that every sequencing system on our days is using a modified version of the Sanger technique and every one of them has its own problems and none of them is completely accurate. We are facing a much more important problem, which is information, we have tons and tons of information coming from the sequencing techniques but few have a good idea of what to do whit it. E. coli is the most studied bacteria and even in that case we are not sure if the annotation of its genome is correct. We are in the edge but what side are we going to fall? Nobody could tell.

Wouldn't that represent a dose-response? I mean, physically, if light is a stream of photons or energy (that whole particle-wave duality makes this a mess), it could potentially interact with proteins. I would imagine the most likely interaction would be some sort of excitation, which may or may not be sufficient to cause protein conformational changes or altered activity. Different wavelengths of light have different energy states and would thus affect the proteins differently, but what role does a light/dark pattern play? And can it actually impact specific signal transduction pathways?
