Your question is really one related much more to organizational behavior than to media psychology, as such. Gatekeepers may be designated role players, self-appointed guardians, or be personal assistants with a personal understanding with their direct superior. More formally organized firms and institutions will tend to handle the gatekeeper function according to clear guidelines and procedures. Smaller and more informal organizations will be more likely to lack clear guidelines.

  Media Psychology has to play a great role in looking into the contents of disseminated news as they shape the attitude , facilitates in forming opinion, extends information and educate the people atMedia Psychology has to play a great role in looking into the contents of disseminated news as they shape the attitude , facilitates in forming opinion, extends information and educate the people at the same time if a news is not disseminated with proper care(without authenticating the contents) it may traumatise people, may promote rumours and also may disclose secrects causing danger to public life. News of 9/11 incident of US had never shown a mutilated body and lying deadbodies and other such tragic scenes .Why? Guidelines of Media Psychology was used in disseminating this news without comprosing with the contents of this tragic incident's depiction for a prolonged duration till the time it continued. Why such restrain is not exersized in other countries especially developing ones that needs to be looked into more specifically by Media Psychology in collaboration with other concerned agencies.
