Since the agency for which I work has a license to the software, I use various programs for developing maps or analysis products which includes ArcMap and ESRI. Concurrently I'm testing MatLab-image processing toolbox to leverage functions for raster images/spectral info management. Of greatest importance to me is the data collection prior to office data integration and management; there are specific qualities I'm trying to enhance in my workplace which relate to issues of scale at which certain phenomena are observed. Because of these scale-related issues I think its important to gain as precise and accurate information collected in the field as possible. These two qualities in data are enabled through Pathfinder Office (post-field GPS software) and TerraSync (GPS software). When properly configured, these software products enable the ability to record your PDOP (precision measure) as well as to develop data dictionaries (accuracy measure), which can be extremely useful if you have many different types of data to collect that include potentially long lists of information (ie. drop down menus for selection) or if you have a highly diverse user group in your workplace which fulfill various functions.

The straight forward answer to your question would be to pick the analogous one to future scenario. Ideally, claiming one transition period to be more analogous than the other to the uncertain future would be a difficult task unless you develop scenarios of given conditions. As you explained that the transition matrices appeared to be different, I would expect the prevailing scenarios to be different as well, e.g. population growth, the cardinal direction to where the most change took place etc. Therefore it would be wise to develop such scenarios when you calibrated the land changes in two transition periods and thereby you can predict the future change under those scenarios. Supporting literature could be found about the cellular automation of urban growth. Hope that helps.

Spatial data quality is a key problem, but also the selection of best spatial scale to modelling SDM (species distribution models) is key problem. The modelling process uses a number of parameters to predict others, such as the occurrence of determinate species, population size, habitat suitability or biodiversity. For example is well recognized as the heterogeneity of landscapes can lead to changes in species’ abundance and biodiversity. However, landscape metrics depend on maps and spatial scales when it comes to undertaking a GIS analysis. Hi Javier and Ron, thanks for the reference to Django, an ORM I have not been aware of until now. Interesting enough is that it also provides a key-value cache API using Memcached as back-end. And that takes me back to Ron's space-filling curves which are required to cache spatial data in key-value fashion. So thanks, Ron, for your offer. I will probably come back to it, as soon as I have started the coding part of this matter.
