i am also agree with yanwen wang. For confirmation of type 2, measure the insulin level. type 1 DM is characterised by hypoinsulinaemia whereas, type 2 DM characterised by hyperinsulinaemia

With the volume, you can know if the weight is more protein/lipid composed. I don't know if exist a relationship table, but protein is more heavy than lipid.
