There are very many methods employed in extraction of banana fiber. Some of the leading ones are: Fiber decorticators (machines); water retting coupled with hand scrapping. However optimization should be done at extraction level. The end use of the fibers play a major role, knowing that banana fiber is coarse, therefore the applications can be in hand crafts, composites or even textiles.

I am currently looking into the cooling channels in plastic injection molding. I will conduct a study prior to the optimization of the Particle Swarm Optimization to optimize parameters such as melting temperature, packing temperature, pressure, and shrinkage. After that I decided to make a prototype mold. I have a problem with how to use Matlab associated with Particle Swarm Optimization. Please advice and help me.

Hi, Interesting topic. Taking the work of Kuhn standing for philosophy of science in general, the writings of Dasgupta for computers science, Hubka and Eder for engineering design and design science and Polya for problem solving in mathematics I would say that all of these are intertwined sharing common features. Maybe the best example is Polya’s work which prescribes how to achieve results in mathematics. Math as a field for itself, abstract and logical, thus not technical or physical, according to Polya possess a prescriptive methodology. However the results of math pretty much tackle the salient features of our universe being descriptive in the essence.

Hi Anwar, As already stated, your question would need to be more precise, but I will assume you're talking about a tensile test. If you are not, your question does not really make sense, since there are no points distinguishing engineering strain from true strain anywhere else than in tensile specimens or beams. Also I assume you think of those strain gages that need to be glued - welded for high temperature - to the surface of your tensile specimen, and then linked to a Wheatstone bridge to get microstrains... You have to be aware that if you use a single strain gage on a tensile specimen you will mesure the sum of : - true strain component in the considered measured direction - plus a contribution of true strain in the other direction - plus thermal strain Also, you have to know that if your tensile test involve "a lot" of deformation of the specimen (like 5-10%), you may have troubles with glue delamination so your results will be unusable (or worst for an engineer, wrong and apparently usable). It is usually more reliable to rely on the "classical but proven" method : using an extensometer, calculating the engineering and the true strain and remember that these informations are valid until necking. So basically I would avoid using strain gage for tensile test in plastic domain and rely on codes and standards or on the experience of anybody experienced in your lab/school/company or in the closest lab/school/company. If you were talking about an extensometer : you do not measure any strain with it : you measure the extension of a known gage lenght and can deduce engineering or true strain. Regards

Hello, in ANSYS CFX you can use the so called BPG or best practise guidelines. These are some rules for the mesh quality, especially in the boundary layer and other things like the most stable boundary conditions. A poor discretisation (meshing) is one of the most important sources for errors (cause some turbulent effects are just damped away by a mesh which is too coarse). For example you should never use the velocity as a boundary condition, the massflow ist much better (the explanation for this is a little too hard for my poor english :) ). The most stable bc with the best results is massflow at the inlet and pressure at outlet or conversely. If you have a complex geometry try to mesh it with least interfaces as possible. If you need details for a concrete case, please feel free to ask me. I work with ANSYS CFX & ICEM Hexa since ~10 years, almost every day. Best regards

Its easy to understand this with a molecular view point. Imagine a hollow cylinder with considerable thickness. Atoms of the element will be distributed evenly throughout the volume (to have even density). Now, when we intend to roll it out to make it flat, the outer circumference will receive more atoms fighting each other to secure a spot, which results in molecular level friction and dislocations, ultimately stress. Similarly, the atoms in the inner circumference will relax and there are chances of rupture due to low concentration of atoms (Important concepts are the electronic energy distribution and force components acting on each atoms - Mere finite element analysis wont give you a comfortable picture)!! Enjoy!!
