  I'm investigating Shadow Systems in IT, meaning all systems architecture that is not "official" but created by user and other stakeholders to do their jobs (yes, that includes all those mini systemsI'm investigating Shadow Systems in IT, meaning all systems architecture that is not "official" but created by user and other stakeholders to do their jobs (yes, that includes all those mini systems in excel). Does anyone have pointers to studies on the subject, or practical experiences about the good and bad points of such systems?

For Community Building you might want to look into Community Economic Development, which covers many of the ideas involved. The concept of a "Hackerspace" is critical to the movements learning opportunities at the grass roots level, because it brings together enthusiasts professionals, and people interested in doing the work.

Essentially a three Dimensional printer technology, parts are designed on CAD and then translated into a pattern of 2 dimensional prints a set distanceHi Rapid Prototyping comes to mind. Essentially a three Dimensional printer technology, parts are designed on CAD and then translated into a pattern of 2 dimensional prints a set distance apart. The printer then sinters or otherwise, prints the 3 dimensional object by printing successive 2 D layers and sintering them together. Clean up the result and have a high fidelity admittedly plastic replica of the part you want to design. at scale or part scale, then you can use the part to make the molds for your negative, which you can use to make the first blank for your master, which can then be machined to perfection to become your positive for building more molds etc. You get the idea.
