ABSTRACT: We reported an unusual case of disseminated cryptococcal lymphadenitis in an immunocompetent host who presented with fever and lymphadenopathy, which were the only two symptoms and signs. Latex agglutination test of serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) were negative, while lymph node biopsy showed Cryptococcus neoformans. A diagnosis of disseminated cryptococcal lymphadenitis was made. Then the patient was treated with amphotericin B for 15 days as initial therapy and itraconazole for 6 months as maintenance therapy respectively. The patient received re-examination per 6 months and was followed up for 2 years. Swollen lymph nodes diminished gradually, and no fever or other symptoms were found. Latex agglutination test of serum and CSF were negative throughout the follow-up period, and anti-HIV, syphilis and tuberculosis antibody were all negative.

ABSTRACT: Proteinase-activated receptor-2 (PAR2) may be an important regulator of skin mast cell function during cutaneous inflammation and hypersensitivity. However, little is known of the role of PAR2 in allergic pruritus, because mast cells, which are thought to be responsible for this symptom, can release a number of different pruritogens. In the present study, we investigated the effects of several agents on passive cutaneous anaphylaxis-induced scratching behavior in ICR mice. As a result, cetirizine and ketanserin produced dose-dependent inhibition of scratching behavior induced by passive cutaneous anaphylaxis. Combined cetirizine with ketanserin exhibited significant inhibitory effects for the number of passive cutaneous anaphylaxis-induced scratching behavior. Pretreatment of the experimental animals with PAR2-neutralizing antibody and protease inhibitor leupeptin significantly inhibited passive cutaneous anaphylaxis-induced scratching behavior. Furthermore, we found that topical application of tacrolimus significantly reduced the number of scratching behavior induced by passive cutaneous anaphylaxis in a dose-dependent manner. Combined cetirizine with tacrolimus also exhibited significant inhibitory effects for the number of passive cutaneous anaphylaxis-induced scratching behavior. Tacrolimus in doses of 3% and 10% significantly inhibited tryptase-induced scratching behavior. These results suggest that PAR2 may be involved in passive cutaneous anaphylaxis-induced scratching behavior and tacrolimus produces an anti-allergic pruritus effect in ICR mice.

ABSTRACT: To identify related factors of job burnout in Shanghai employees.
Four hundred fifty-six employees in Shanghai were investigated in this study. Self-administered questionnaires were used to assess job burnout and job stress, based on Maslach Burnout Inventory and the Job Demand-Control model as well as Effort-Reward Imbalance Model. Hierarchical linear regression was employed to analyze the relationship of job burnout to personal characteristics and job stress.
The indexes of three dimensions of job burnout were emotional exhaustion 19.70 +/- 8.92, depersonalization 11.95 +/- 4.45 and reduced personal accomplishment 28.10 +/- 10.08. Job stress was found to be affected differently in three dimensions of job burnout. Job demand, effort and over-commitment had positive impact on emotional exhaustion. Job control had a negative association with emotional exhaustion. There were significant relationship between depersonalization and age, sex and education of employees. Job control, reward and over-commitment affected the index of depersonalization. Education level and social support increased personal accomplishment index.
It is necessary to reduce job stress and care about personal characteristics in preventing job burnout.

ABSTRACT: The ORF of genome segment 6 (S6) of rice ragged stunt oryzavirus (RRSV) Philippines isolate was cloned and sequenced based on the S6 sequence of the Thailand isolate. Pns6, the 71 kD product of S6 expressed in E. coli, was demonstrated to be a viral non-structural protein of RRSV by Western blotting. The gel mobility shift assays showed that Pns6 had nucleic acid binding activity. Pns6 could interact with single- and double-stranded forms of DNA and RNA, showing a preference for single-stranded nucleic acid and a slight preference for RRSV ssRNA over the rice ssRNA, as demonstrated by both competition and displacement assays. The binding of Pns6 to nucleic acids is strong and sequence non-specific. By using five truncated derivatives of Pns6, it was found that the basic region from amino acid 201 to 273 of Pns6 was the unique nucleic acid binding domain. Subcellular fractionation of leaf tissues of RRSV-infected rice plants and subsequent Western blotting had shown that Pns6 accumulated predominately in the cytoplasmic membrane fraction. The possible role of RRSV Pns6 in virus replication and assembly is discussed.

ABSTRACT: To observe the change of housefly (Musca domestica) breeding in the pig manure treated ecologically with its larvae.
The number of eggs and the hatching rate of larvae in the treated manure were compared with that in the untreated manure.
The number of eggs laid in the treated manure accounted for only 17.7% of the total eggs, while those in the untreated manure accounted for 82.3%. The hatching rate in the treated manure was 41.4 %, but 85.1% in the untreated manure.
There is a significant reduction of eggs laid and of their hatching rate in the pig manure treated ecologically by housefly larvae.

ABSTRACT: Cryptococcus neoformans may be grown to the exponential phase,are broken by a combination of NovoZym234 and mechanical means,and mitochondrial DNA was extracted from DNaseI-treated mitochondrial preparation by differential centrifugation. Three pellets, including yeast cell, protoplasts, mitochondrial, were examined by transmission electronic microscopy. The resulting mtDNA is sufficiently pure for restriction endonucleases analysis and PCR in further studying. A rapid and effective method for the preparation of the mtDNA of C.neoformans was established.

ABSTRACT: Since 1993 there has been outbreak of an acute lethal disease of the cultivated fleshy prawns (Penaeus chinesis, Osbeck) in China. After a short period of intensive studies we reported firstly the presence of a non-occluded baculovirus in the tissue of diseased prawns. The virus was also named as white spot syndrome baculovirus by some authors. Here, it is reported that, based on sequence analysis, an early and late transcription gene(1 197bp gene)of baculovirus was identified. Two hammerhead ribozymes RZ1 and RZ2 targeting the 54-56 bp and 314-316 bp of the 1 197 bp gene were designed, and in vitro cleavage experiments showed that under proper conditions the target gene could be completely cleaved by those ribozymes together or separately.
