  ABSTRACT: Experimental validation is important to establish an effective lightning protection design of dis-tribution lines. The Tokyo Electric Power Company has conducted field research of voltages and currents in actual distribution lines due to lightning strokes, and estimated the probability of the direct and indirect strokes using still cameras. In this paper, the phenomenon of a flashover generation was discussed based on the features of observed insulator voltage waveforms. Those results can be useful in clarifying light-ning performance of distribution line faults.
