    ABSTRACT: An effect of multipath fading on the performance of a cellular code-division multiple-access (CDMA) system is analyzed in this paper. A wide-sense stationary uncorrelated scattering (WSSUS) channel model and the coherent binary phase-shift keying (BPSK) with asynchronous direct-sequence (DS) spreading signal are assumed in the analysis. The average error probability for both the forward link and reverse link of a cellular CDMA system over a frequency-selective fading channel using a conventional correlation-type receiver and RAKE receiver are derived. The impact of imperfect power control and channel capacity of a cellular CDMA system is also investigated. The closed forms of average error probability derived in the paper can save a lot of computation time to analyze the performance and channel capacity of a cellular CDMA system. The analytical results show that the performance and maximum transmission rate of cellular CDMA systems degrade with an increase in the number of simultaneous users and the number of interfering cells. The signal-to-interface ratio (SIR) for the reverse link derived in this paper can directly describe the interrelationships among a number of paths, number of users, number of interfering cells, fading factors, and maximum variation of a received unfaded signal

    ABSTRACT: The capacity improvements achievable using beam steering-sectorized array antenna with the direct sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) system for the reverse link are analyzed. A wide-sense stationary uncorrelated scattering (WSSUS) channel model and perfect power control are assumed in the analysis. The impacts of phase error of receiver and voice activation are also considered. The average error probabilities for the reverse link of the DS-CDMA system over a Nakagami frequency-selective fading channel using a partially coherent receiver are derived. The capacity of the DS-CDMA system using a beam steering-sectorized antenna is quantified and compared with that of sectorized and omnidirectional antennas. The signal-to-noise ratio derived in this paper can directly describe the interrelationships among the number of users, Nakagami fading parameter, directivity of antenna, and voice activity factor

    ABSTRACT: The nonlinear renewal process approach (RPA) is applied to analyze the noncoherent sum-difference loop (SDL) with gain and phase imbalance for spread spectrum systems. In the analysis, the code acquisition boundary is equal to the branch offset, 0<δ&les;1. The results indicate that under phase imbalance, when δ&ges;0.5 and with gain balance, the values of the DC bias of the SDL are small and will not change with the loop signal-to-noise ratio (SNR); when δ<0.5 and with a low loop SNR, the DC bias becomes larger which will result in the SDL loss of lock. A larger branch offset may result in a higher mean-time-to-lose-lock (MTLL) for the SDL with gain and phase imbalance; however, the RMS tracking error has not obviously changed with the increasing branch offset. Furthermore, it is shown that in case where the early and late branch of the SDL can not be implemented with equal gain, one can get better performance results by putting the arm with smaller gain in the late branch of the SDL

A wide-sense stationary uncorrelated scattering (WSSUS) channel model and the coherent BPSK modulation with asynchronous direct-sequence (DS) spreading signal are assumed in the analysis. The average error probabilities for both the forward link and reverse link of the cellular CDMA system over frequency-selective fading channels are derived. The impact of imperfect power control on the performance of the cellular CDMA system is also investigated. The analytical results show that the performance of the cellular CDMA system degrades with an increase in the number of simultaneous users and the number of interfering cells. The performance degradation due to imperfect power control will increase with the variation range of the unfaded received amplitude for each user

The impact of imperfect power control on the performance of the cellular CDMA system is also investigated
