Article: Multi-criteria assessment of different temporal water quality changes causing impact on public health and environmental degradation
    [show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: The temporal changes in water quality parameters can be evaluated using multi criteria decision support, which utilizes water quality parameters as different criteria for representing a scenario of water quality parameter variation with time at different zones of the study area of Alandi, Dehu and Chikali near Pune city of Maharashtra state, India. The areas are affected by waterborne diseases including enteric diseases. The temporal variations of water quality parameters in different zones of the study area can act as an indicator regarding the water quality parameter variation related to anthropogenic and other factors. The multi-criteria study quantifies these temporal variations of water quality parameters and can help develop priorities including suggestion for alternative anthropogenic associated activities The multi-criteria evaluation uses pair wise comparison of the water quality parameters to obtain a rating based on the pair wise comparison scale used for numerical rating. The elements of the matrix will present a numerical rating ranging from 1 to 9 depending upon the value of the water quality parameter at a given time. The multi criteria analysis can be carried out using the water quality parameters affecting the health of the people for assessment through multi criteria composite quality index (CQI) covering the different temporal periods. These issues having a bearing on the environmental and ecological changes is brought out in the paper.
