  ABSTRACT: Autologous bone is the “gold standard” bone graft material, as it provides the full spectrum of osteogenic, osteoconductive, and osteoinductive properties. The posterior iliac crest represents another ­harvesting site of autologous bone graft, providing a larger volume of cancellous and cortico­canellous bone compared to the anterior iliac crest and is extensively used in posterior spinal fusion procedures.
