Article: Dielectric properties of nanophase Ag2HgI4 and Ag2HgI4-Al2O3 nanocomposites

ABSTRACT: The dielectric properties of nanophase Ag2HgI4 and Ag2HgI4-Al2O3 nanocomposites at different frequencies have been studied over a temperature range covering the stability range of β phase of Ag2HgI4 and beyond the β to a phase transition temperature. έ′, tan δ and σa.c. of nanophase Ag2HgI4 and Ag2HgI4-Al2O3 nanocomposites were found to be larger than the reported values for polycrystalline pellets of Ag2HgI4. The dielectric properties of the nanocomposites were found to be a function of the wt.% of nano alumina. The observed changes are attributed to the grain boundary properties of nanophase materials and to the microsize space charge effects.Bulletin of Materials Science 04/2012; 23(5):361-367. · 0.88 Impact Factor -
Article: Optical properties of 60B2O3-(40-x)PbO-xMCl2 and 50B2O3-(50-x) PbO-xMCl2 (M = Pb, Cd) glasses

ABSTRACT: Optical absorption and transmittance spectra of 60B2O3-(40-x)PbO-xMCl2 and 50B2O3-(50-x) PbO-xMCl2 (M = Pb, Cd) (10 ≤x ≤ 20) glasses of varying composition were recorded in the UV-visible region. Various optical parameters such as optical energy gap (E opt), Urbach energy (E e), refractive index (n 0), optical dielectric constant (ε∞), and ratio of carrier concentration to the effective mass (N/m*;) were determined. The variation of optical energy gap with increase in the concentration of PbCl2 or CdCl2 is discussed.Bulletin of Materials Science 04/2012; 27(2):207-212. · 0.88 Impact Factor -
