ABSTRACT: This paper reports the use of proton NMR spectroscopy for the analysis of trimethylamine in the urine of a patient with trimethylaminuria. Analysis of this compound was also performed for other members of his family. Qualitative and quantitative determination of trimethylamine and trimethylamine-N-oxide was simultaneously performed on untreated urine within a few minutes. The application of the method is discussed.
