Article: Preparation and electrochemical characterization of porous SWNT–PPy nanocomposite sheets for supercapacitor applications
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: Highly porous sheets comprised of single walled carbon nanotubes and doped polypyrrole (SWNT–PPy) were prepared by vacuum filtration of SWNT–PPy methanol dispersions. The employed preparation procedure is an extension of conventional bucky-paper fabrication technique for the multi-component system. A number of nanocomposites with nominal SWNT:PPy compositions ranging from 1:0 to 1:1 were obtained and tested. Electrochemical properties of the nanocomposites were investigated by cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic spectroscopy technique in aqueous 1 M NaCl electrolyte. The highest specific capacitance of 131 F/g was obtained for nanocomposite with 1:1 SWNT:PPy ratio. Prospective applications of prepared materials range from supercapacitors to electrodes for batteries and electromechanical actuators.Synthetic Metals. -
Article: The secondary relaxation in the dielectric loss of glucose–water mixtures
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: We studied dielectric relaxation phenomena of glucose–water mixtures in the supercooled and glassy states at frequencies ranging from 0.1 Hz to 10 MHz. We clearly observed that as the water content or temperature decreased, the relaxation time difference between the α and the secondary relaxations increased and the relative relaxation strength between the α and the secondary relaxation decreased. We found that the effects of adding water or increasing temperature on the secondary relaxation are qualitatively similar to that of decreasing the rotation–translation (RT) coupling constant in the schematic mode-coupling theory [W. Götze, M. Sperl, Phys. Rev. Lett. 92 (2004) 105701].Journal of Non-Crystalline Solids. -
Article: The liquid–glass transition in sugars: Relaxation dynamics in trehalose
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: The liquid–glass transition in the disaccharide sugar trehalose mixed with small amounts of water was studied with calorimetry, photon correlation spectroscopy, Brillouin scattering, dielectric spectroscopy, and rheology measurements. Trehalose is of particular interest among the sugars because of its importance in biology, biochemistry, and the pharmaceutical industry, due to its ability to protect organisms, proteins, or membranes during dehydration (anhydrobiosis). Preliminary results of these experiments are presented and compared with each other and with previously published data on this material.Journal of Non-Crystalline Solids.
