    ABSTRACT: A method is presented for calculating the ground level electric field strength produced by HVDC converter station switchyard bus currents. The currents are derived from a computer model of the station. Contributions from the several bus sections are summed to determine the total field.The ground level field calculations were based upon the ‘quasi-static’ approximation and phase retardation was neglected. Field measurements were made at two points outside the converter station. A comparison between measured and calculated values showed good agreement in the 50–500 kHz interval.
