ABSTRACT: This paper shows the applications of an automated analytical system based on the sequential injection analysis technique (SIA). Every year, thousands of clinical analyses are made for diagnostic or preventive purposes; due the large amount of samples, automated analytical systems are necessary to provide accurate information quickly. Systems based on the SIA technique have shown a good performance monitoring clinical substances like Vitamin B6, diclofenac, captopril and morphine, among others. The system is controlled by a custom graphical user interface (GUI]) developed in LabVIEW 8.6®; through the GUI, the user can easily program a sequence of experiments. In this application three experiments were developed to show the usability of the system: the first experiment was a sodium successive dilutions sequence; in the second experiment the system performed a sequence of successive additions with sodium and potassium; finally the third experiment produced a set of random samples with three stock solutions. The produced samples were tested in a flow cell with five ion selective electrodes (ISE) and a reference electrode, the potential generated was measured with a potentiometer and stored in the computer. The SIA system improved the time required for these analytical procedures and also showed a satisfactory performance.
