Article: Immunolocalization of the angiogenetic factor pleiotrophin (PTN) in the growth plate of mice.
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to find out whether and where the angiogenic agent pleiotrophin (PTN) occurs within the growth plate. We investigated paraffin-embedded tissue sections of ten male mice with an antibody directed against the recombinant PTN. Immunostaining for PTN was positive within the cytoplasm and the pericellular matrix of osteoblasts which lined the longitudinal mineralized septae of the epiphyseal plate. Within the zone of hypertrophic chondrocytes, immunolabelling for PTN was positive in the pericellular matrix of hypertrophic chondrocytes and within the opened lacunae of the apoptotic hypertrophic chondrocytes. The resting zone and the proliferation zone were PTN negative. The results of our study suggest that the known angiogenetic peptide PTN plays a role in the process of angiogenesis in the growth plate.Archives of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery 08/2001; 121(7):414-6. · 1.37 Impact Factor -
Article: [Synovial hemangioma within Hoffa's fat pad as the cause of anterior knee pain. 2 cases within a family and review of the literature].
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: An 18 years old man and his younger sister suffered from anterior knee pain. Cause is a soft tissue tumor located within Hoffa's fat pad however in both cases. The tumor has been excised and the histological examination demonstrated the diagnosis synovial hemangioma. A literature search shows that synovial hemangiomas are rare soft tissue tumors. They mainly involve the knee joint. Mean age is the second decade of life and most authors observed severe degenerative changes in the involved knee joint. There are no reports about familiar accumulation within the literature. Familiar accumulation of synovial hemangiomas however have been described for cerebral, skin and hepatic manifestations but not for synovial hemangiomas.Zeitschrift für Orthopädie 137(4):376-8. · 0.86 Impact Factor
