Article: Measurement of the polarization of and Ξ− produced in a Σ− beam of 330 GeV/c
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: The polarization of L 0 ,[`(L)] 0 , S+\Lambda ^0 , \overline \Lambda ^0 , \Sigma ^ + and[`(L)] 0 \overline \Lambda ^0 is observed, as was also the case in proton beam data. At transverse momenta of about 1 GeV/c and + show little polarization, significantly lower than in the proton beam data, while – have a polarization comparable to the polarization of 0 produced in proton beams.Zeitschrift für Physik A Hadrons and Nuclei 11/1995; 350(4):379-386. -
Article: Measurement of the Omega 0c lifetime
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: We present the measurement of the lifetime of the Omega_c we have performed using three independent data samples from two different decay modes. Using a Sigma- beam of 340 GeV/c we have obtained clean signals for the Omega_c decaying into Xi- K- pi+ pi+ and Omega- pi+ pi- pi+, avoiding topological cuts normally used in charm analysis. The short but measurable lifetime of the Omega_c is demonstrated by a clear enhancement of the signals at short but finite decay lengths. Using a continuous maximum likelihood method we determined the lifetime to be tau(Omega_c) = 55 +13-11(stat) +18-23(syst) fs. This makes the Omega_c the shortest living weakly decaying particle observed so far. The short value of the lifetime confirms the predicted pattern of the charmed baryon lifetimes and demonstrates that the strong interaction plays a vital role in the lifetimes of charmed hadrons.Physics Letters B 08/1995; 358:151-161. · 3.95 Impact Factor -

Article: New Data On
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: Among the ground state charmed hadrons theOmega 0 c is the least known particle. It has so far been observed in a few decay channels only and with low statistics. Using a data sample of 1993 from the CERN hyperon beam experiment WA89 theOmega 0 c has been found in 7 decay modes which cover final states withOmega Gamma , Xi Gamma and . We present a measurement of theOmega 0 c mass and its lifetime. 1 Introduction The Omega 0 c (ssc) is the least well known weakly decaying charmed baryon. First found in the former hyperon beam experiment WA62 [1] it has been seen by Argus [2] and E687 [3]. These experiments found theOmega 0 c in four different decay channels. In the following we present new data on theOmega 0 c in seven decay modes obtained in the CERN hyperon beam experiment WA89. The measured lifetimes of the three charmed baryons + c (udc), Xi + c (usc), Xi 0 c (dsc) differ by almost a factor of 4. For the Xi 0 c decay the direct decay and the deca...08/1995; -
Article: Measurement Of The Polarization Of . . .
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: The polarization of 0 , 0 , Sigma + and Xi Gamma inclusively produced in Sigma Gamma induced interactions at 330 GeV has been measured in the experiment WA89 at CERN. This is the first measurement of polarization of baryons produced by a hyperon beam. No polarization of 0 is observed, as was also the case in proton beam data. At transverse momenta of about 1 GeV/c 0 and Sigma + show little polarization, significantly lower than in the proton beam data, while Xi Gamma have a polarization comparable to the polarization of 0 produced in proton beams. ABSTRACT: We present the measurement of the lifetime of the we have performed using three independent data samples from two different decay modes. Using a Σ− beam of 340 we have obtained clean signals for the decaying i Ξ−K−π+π+ and Ω−π+π−π+, avoiding topological cuts normally used in charm analysis. The short but measurable lifetime of the is demonstrated by a clear enhancement of the signals at short but finite decay lengths. Using a continuous maximum likelihood method we determined the lifetime to be τωc0 = 55−11+13(stat)−23+18(syst) fs. This makes the the shortest living weakly decaying particle observed so far. The short value of the lifetime comfirms the predicted pattern of the charmed baryon lifetimes and demonstrates that the strong interaction plays a vital role in the lifetimes of charmed hadrons.Physics Letters B.
