ABSTRACT: A sensitive chemiluminescence (CL) detection method by flow injection analysis (FIA) was investigated for the assay of enoxacin (ENX) using lumiol-H2O2 system in presence of copper (II). It was observed that interaction of ENX with copper (II) caused the sensitization of CL intensity of the system strongly. Based on this, a rapid and sensitive CL-FIA method was designed for the determination of trace amount of ENX. Under optimum experimental conditions, the enhancement of CL was linear with the concentration of ENX in the range of 5.5×10-10 to 3.0×10-7 molL-1 (r=0.9998) with a detection limit, as defined by IUPAC, CLOD = 3×Sb/m (where Sb is the standard deviation of the blank signals and m is the slope of the calibration curve) of 7.5×10-10 molL-1. Precision of the method was tested at the concentration level of 1.0×10-7 molL-1 for 11 replicate measurements giving value of relative standard deviation (RSD) 1.25 %. The proposed method was successfully applied for quantitative determination of enoxacin in biological fluids (human serum and urine) and pharmaceutical formulation.
